IR filter was removed so check out the last video to see some of the challenges we faced lighting the set. It’s my first time shooting like this so the way the lighting behaved was a fun challenge. This was a tiny passion project that was lucky to get its crew and gear so thanks to everyone listed down below. Biggest feat was making this set look so good with only an 8 hour window for loading in and tail lights.

My mother is already settled in her hometown in Poland, and my dad is soon joining her. We spent a month on the road together, camping up and down the west coast along with a few of his college buddies. Towards the end we were able to set up camp in ten minutes, tents and all. Wrapping up would have almost the same if it weren’t for drawn out, greasy breakfasts, which I didn’t care for, but it felt good to slow down. My brother, who’s lived in Wroclaw for years now, also joined for a stint. Hopefully I speak better Polish now than a month ago. All photos shot on my Mamiya 645 Pro TL.

If you wanted to check out how the large format rig works and get any questions answered, come to @lafilmlab this Wednesday June 18th to check it out! 4:30pm to 6pm. They’ve been gracious enough to open their doors to us, so I’ll go in depth with all the problems I faced, the solutions I used, and we’ll even get to do some digital video and analog portraits. LA Film lab is one of the only places in LA to develop large format film, so it’s the perfect place to check it out. We’ve made some progress on the camera build thanks to our crowdfunding campaign, and here I’ll be showing off our intermediary design. Come on through!

In late 2024 I started production on @real.magic.film , the first narrative (at least for right now) to be shot entirely using a large format camera. It’s about a young man who perpetually disappoints his strict parents, and now his childhood imaginary friend has come back in to his life. It’s been over a year since we shot it, a lot has happened. One of my sweet chickens, Shelly, passed, and my car was totaled on my way to build her a memorial planter, pictured at the end. But I’m working on a new film now that I’m very excited about, and can’t wait to share some more about…

This film gets its name from a moment that comes soon after this scene. A bullied and humiliated delivery driver suddenly gets a green light to punch his aggressor. Then three more times, then again.
Two people at opposite points of their careers and lives explore violence and its potential for catharsis and deep shame.

Almost exactly a year ago I directed this short film with a lot of friends. I’m incredibly thankful for @eduardompulido and @damienfoley1997 starring in this film, and @nicky_sox for shooting it. It’s about a struggling delivery driver who’s lured in to an ex championship fighters home in hopes for a tip, but ends up playing a role in his violent coping mechanism. I created the story and @iansteelela wrote the screenplay.
