The District would be nothing without working people, but the District is not taking care of working people in this budget.

Your Councilmembers need to hear from you today. FIll out the Access to Justice Email Action - Link in Bio D.C. Council is deciding on what programs & services DC will fund in next year's budget and the Access to Justice Initiative is facing a crisis. The Mayor's budget cuts funding from by 86% – from $31.7 million to just $4.487 million. We are calling on the Council to restore funding to ensure that residents facing eviction, domestic violence, the loss of public benefits, and other urgent legal challenges can access legal services. This funding supports our community’s most vulnerable residents. It allows Empower DC to provide direct outreach and education to residents at risk of eviction or displacement.

TENANT ADVOCACY ALERT! Yesterday DCJWJ and a group of Tenant Association presidents and leaders went down to testify at the DC Council budget hearings to demand full funding for Eviction Prevention services. From Shelby, tenant association leader in Ward 1: "A pillar of our Tenant Association is the Eviction Defense Team. We believe that everyone deserves dignified housing, irrespective of how our landlord sees them. Over the last three years, our TA has been made aware that our immigrant neighbors have received the same lease violation notice by our landlord suing for eviction. “We as a TA only have so much capacity to work closely with our neighbors. We provide legal resources, interpretation, and technology help, and other methods of care but face obstacles with time, capacity, or knowledge gaps. We greatly depend on DC Jobs with Justice which also relies on the Access to Justice grant that funds eviction prevention services.”

DC Council: Fund Access to Justice & Protect Tenants! The Access to Justice Initiative is the DC's largest public investment in legal services for low- and moderate-income residents. It's facing an 86% cut! This puts tens of thousands of D.C. residents at risk of getting no legal help. Please join us in urging the D.C. Council to make the restoration of Access to Justice Initiative funding a top FY27 budget priority. Take Action- link in bio!

We'll be at tonight's free May Day Celebration concert. Will we see you there? May Day is about showing up for workers, for our communities, and for each other. Right now, tens of thousands of people across the country are joining together for a day to defend our democracy and stand up for our collective rights and freedoms at a time when our futures are under threat. This, of course, is part of a long, storied history of organizing. May Day has been a day of protest, solidarity, and action for over 100 years. As we speak, Rising Organizers like you are hitting the streets as a continuation of this celebrated event. And we're excited to keep the celebration going with you ✨tonight✨ at the May Day Celebration Concert at the AFL-CIO National Headquarters, starting at 5 PM. The Rising Organizers team is excited to be tabling at the event, connecting with folks who care about building people-powered change and sharing ways to get involved in organizing right here in DC. Whether you’ve trained with us before or are just curious about how to take the next step, come say hi! We'll have merch and materials to share, and we'd love to see you in the streets! For all the details and to let organizers know you'll be there tonight, check out maydaydc.org/concert! And we'll see you there for all the festivities.
