Last week, the DC Council voted to expand the youth curfew. While we disagree that the curfew is a solution that puts the wellbeing of our youth as the priority, we will continue to demand measures & resources that protect and center youth safety and respect for all DC residents Follow BSA for updates and ways you can continue to support #YouthSafety #CareNotCuffs #DCYouth

May 25, 2026 marks six years since the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN, a few blocks away from Target’s headquarters. A global rebellion ensued against police violence and white supremacy which led to large corporations investing into Black communities and further investing into diversity, equity and inclusion programs, which included Target. After nearly 1.5 years of a boycott of Target led by the Black community due to their reversal of their DEI programs and additionally collaborating with ICE during Operation Metro Surge, Target continues to refuse to acknowledge the harm that they have done to Black people. Our boycott coalition will be returning to the Target store where we began our protest to commemorate the six year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. We invite the DC community to join us. If your organization wants to sponsor, please DM us. 📆Monday, May 25 ⏰11:00AM 📍3100 14th St NW, Washington, DC

To all the mamas of this movement: The ones who correct, the ones who nurture, the ones who protect, the ones who teach, and the ones doing the unseen work that keep us going another day. You are appreciated.

Last Friday, graduate workers, undergraduate students and workers, faculty, adjuncts, facilities workers, staff, museum workers, and community members joined together for a May Day rally that asked, “Who Runs GW?” (Hint: we do!) It was a powerful display of solidarity, demonstrating that students and workers at GW are united in demanding more transparent and participatory governance, comprehensive anti-discrimination protections that cover transgender, intersex, immigrant, and non-citizen workers, fair, living wages, the enforcement of existing union contracts, safe and equitable working conditions, an immediate halt to firings and the reinstatement of all faculty who are terminated at GSEHD, and a halt on all layoffs and other austerity measures across the university. After we rallied at GW, we joined up with Free DC, organized labor, racial justice organizations, faith groups, and many others for DC’s May Day march. In many ways, the attacks on higher education mirror attacks on DC. In both cases, existing institutional leadership has largely responded by complying in advance or not fighting back. Neither DC nor GW are in a better position because of the capitulation. If May Day tells us anything, it’s that working people only ever win when they fight, and fighting requires workers to be organized. Sign our solidarity petition: tinyurl.com/gwvalueworkers

DC Youth deserves care not more curfews and cages. Today the council will move the permanent legislation for youth curfew expansion. We know this bill will pass, but there are proposed amendments that can reduce the harm. Council must vote yes to: >Sunset the permanent bill >Prohibit transportation to youth jails >Extended hours for recs on weekends Curfews don’t keep youth safe. @councilofdc deliver the plan you promised! Invest in our youth. #CareNotCurfews

The youth curfew vote is today and we’re asking the city to turn out to support for our cities young people. We know curfews are not the solution and we’re asking folks to urge their council members to vote no on a permanent youth curfew. #carenotcuffs #safespaces #youthcurfews
