From 12-4pm on Saturday, May 9th, the annual Mother’s Day Free Market will take place at Emory United Methodist Church. Please feel free to share these flyers widely so that all local caregivers in need of baby, children’s, or maternity items can come and get items for free. As a new parenting group in the neighborhood, we were elated when asked to help manage this amazing event. If you’d like to volunteer for the event, please DM us. Thanks!

The Mother’s Day FREE Market is now accepting donations at 20+ porches in Ward 4 (& beyond) & this year @parentingincommunity is helping to run this amazing event originally started years ago by two moms in Ward 4. View porch locations, event details, how to volunteer, and donation info here: /mothersdaymarket In terms of donations, we accept almost anything in good condition related to babies, kids, and maternity, including: Baby/kids clothing (newborn–6T) and maternity clothing Feeding and pumping supplies (complete pump sets only) Children’s toys, books, and games Gear: strollers, carriers, play gyms, bathtubs, car seats (*MUST be unexpired*), etc. Formula (unopened and unexpired) and Diapers (open packs OK, label with size) Taking a few minutes to prep and label your donations saves volunteer hours and significantly reduces waste. If you can donate, thank you! Your community greatly appreciates your generosity.

Child friendly restaurant option - @ricotondc at corner of Georgia & Buchanan. A new Latin American restaurant in the area with a kind owner who welcomes children for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have high chairs available and the owner even came and brought my son a toy (squishy finger puppet) when we had dinner there this week. Tacos, fajitas, salads and burrito bowls available for parents while my little one dined on an empanada and rice. Lots of pastries to include some with guava and coffee for breakfast. If looking for an affordable local meal out on the town where the owner won’t mind if your child has a toddler moment, check out Ricoton.

The next local child friendly business we’d like to highlight is @doublesdc — the lovely coffee shop on Georgia Ave that, in addition to coffee, sells great pastries, sandwiches, and on Friday’s from 12-3pm slices of pizza. Their back patio which is shared with @sonnyspizzadc is perfect for your toddler to mosey around as you sip a latte and catch up with a friend. You’re likely to meet other local parents there doing the same. This month @doublesdc is donating 1% of sales to @ayuda_dmv so if you need your caffeine fix this month, a portion of your purchase from Doubles will be going to a good cause.

We’d like to spotlight some local child friendly restaurants & other spaces here & our first one in this series is Gloria’s Pupuseria at 3411 14th St. NW. Serving pupusas as well as other Salvadoran food, Gloria’s is a restaurant in Columbia Heights happy to host families. They have a highchair for toddlers and the waitress was so kind to our son. He loved his bean and cheese pupusa and mom loved her Sopa de Res (beef soup). They are open 7am-9pm everyday. * If you’d like to contribute to this series, please DM us and we’ll post your photos/descriptions here.

✨Huge thanks to everyone who came out to our Parents for Janeese meet & greet last night! ✨ Families who joined raised over $1,600—and with DC’s 5-to-1 match, that turns into more than $8,000 to power this people-first campaign. We’re so grateful for this joyful, packed space of parents, kids, and community members ready to fight for universal child care, excellent schools, and a DC where every family can thrive. Together, we’re building a city that protects our neighbors from ICE and makes it clear: everyone is welcome here. Stay tuned for daytime and playground canvassing opportunities! @janeese4dc *PIC does not endorse candidates for political office.*

Parents! neighbors! friends! Come hang out with us 💜 We believe that raising our kids means showing up for each other and keeping our neighbors safe. Childcare in DC is way too expensive, and families are feeling it. This Friday (TODAY), join us for a Parents Meet & Greet with @janeese4dc — a mom and Ward 4 neighbor who’s fighting to make DC work for families. Hear about her (just launched!) universal childcare policy platform, meet other parents, and learn about how you and your children can get involved in our city! 🗓 Friday, Feb 6 · 6:30 PM 📍 Lyman’s Tavern · 3720 14th St NW Just community and real talk about how to build the world we want to see. Bring a friend. All are welcome. Hope to see you there. (RSVP in bio) #janeese4dc * PIC does not endorse candidates for political office. *

Tonight in Petworth & Columbia Heights, neighbors lit candles in front of homes and at street corners to stand in solidarity with Minneapolis and honor the life of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse killed by federal immigration agents. Alex’s parents said: “[Alex] cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset.” Tonight we hold space for Alex — and for every person whose name we don’t know, whose lives have been stolen in detention centers, deportations, and state sanctioned violence. Those lives matter, and they are not forgotten. Tonight we honor Alex and tomorrow we keep fighting. We refuse to stay silent in the face of hate, cruelty, and state violence.

Last night, we joined @parentingincommunity for a vigil to honor Renee Good who was murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The message is clear, ICE only tears families apart. It’s time to put a stop to this state sanctioned violence. ICE out of our cities. Here in DC, we see this same violence being perpetrated by the ongoing collaboration between MPD and Federal Agencies, all leaders including Mayor Bowser must demand the end of deportations and ICE in our District. #ICEOutOfDC 📸: @space_boy_media
