Toms freshly tuned + ready to record!
The 2nd floor tom and rack tom are an octave apart.
I’ve tuned each of the tom resos a perfect fourth above the batter. All 3 toms share an A# on either the batter or reso. I've experimented at length with the tuning relationships between these 3 toms.
With this particular tuning there's a ‘unity’ to the sound, and to me they sound like one complete instrument, as opposed to separate drums. The @audixmics D6's on both floors lend a larger than life modern sound that is perfect for the music I'm recording right now. #drumtuning #tunebot #drumproduction #audixdrummics
Saving this snare tuning here for future reference!
Snare is a modern 14"x5" Acrolite 'Classic'. I dug this tuning out of some old notes I had on this drum (got to keep track of the gold tunings haha) I'll be posting more of these tunings for my various snares as both a reference for myself to look back at, and also for anyone that fancies recreating these tunings on their snares. I tuned up to the specific hz using a combination of a reference pitch app and @tunebotdrum Ps I modded this snare with a @bigbangdistribution S Hoop batter. I found the S hoop made a big difference to the amount the shell gets activated when you are tuning around the pitch it wants to resonate at (like here.) The Artist ended up using the bell groove I played here. The lazy piano part inspired me to have all these triplets happening, as a nice contrast.
The @seelectronics 5600 aii's as Stereo Rooms feature heavily in this mix alongside the T2's.
The main groove was inspired by something I saw @dennischambersofficial play, of which was inspired by the Rosanna groove that Jeff Pocaro played.
The integrated bell of the @zildjiancompany 20" Constantinople Medium is perfect on this, it just 'sits' in the music in a really polite and pleasing way.

After recording some Pop Punk drums at a breakneck 194bpm I was really glad to have this song next. I hadn't time to film today. Getting to explore some trap vibes, only the artist wants the drums to still have that rock edge. I much prefer the pure tone of a pre-dampened head without muffling as opposed to an undampened head with external muffling. The Studio X model is by far the head I use most often for recording. Getting more fundamental and slightly less overtones down the mic via the trusty @aquariandrumheads Studio X. I much prefer the pure tone of a pre dampened head without muffling as opposed to an undampened head with external muffling. The Studio X model is by far the head I use most often for recording.
