The first ever Everyone Eats took place last Wednesday, with the intention to uplift and amplify voices that have been drowned out. In a city saturated with creatives, our goal is to create spaces where our peers do not have to feel like their art is being viewed under a Western gaze, no longer “the foreign”, “the international”, “the other”. Film and other artistic forms are not accessible, empowering nor beneficial to all people.
A collaborative effort between
@daughaus.cc and
@cinemaclub.io , we gathered and showcased a variety of queer and/or BI&POC student filmmakers from TMU and York U. American film is inherently linked to class, so it was very special to us that all the films presented were made by students. Stories were told of the kuffiyeh, navigating identity, the meaning of home, and many more.
With Everyone Eats, Daughaus will continue building spaces, not just to support each other but to give the opportunity to directly make change by putting your money back into the community. All the profit made from your ticket purchases went towards it’sOK Studios, an independent Black-led and operated arts space.
Thank you once again to
@itsok.world for being so kind and letting us use your space.
Thank you to everyone who came to support, please look forward to more events ~
