Seven years ago - September 6, 2018 - I broke the internet 💻 while riding a hot dog-fueled wave! 🌭 🌊 . My buddy @wa.winston & I went to the @mariners Bark At the Park Night at @tmobilepark (it was still Safeco Field back then). . My hooman snapped this photo of me holding a hot dog. We didn’t know that @theannasitta had taken a video of our photo shoot and posted it to @dogspottingorg . The photo and video both went viral, and I gained over a thousand new followers overnight. . The next day, I was the #1 topic on @reddit . I started trending internationally 🌍 By the end of the week, I had over 10,000 new followers. I opened a Twitter account because the Mariners said I got to decide whether hot dogs are sandwiches are not. My verdict: Hot dogs 🌭 are delicious but they are NOT sandwiches 🥪 . @abcnews contacted me asking to share some of my photos on @goodmorningamerica . I was featured the following week during 9/11’s entertainment news segment, after updates about the Downton Abbey movie & Elton John’s world tour. . And I was featured on local Seattle news station @king5 . I visited the studio and got to do the news with @mimijungking5 . . A lot of cool things have happened to me because of that hot dog. Today Smol Dog joined a protest against the Laurelhurst Community Council (LCC). Laurelhurst is a very affluent Seattle community located next to the University of Washington… inhabited mostly by Huskies who have too much money, lack empathy, & are out of touch with the rest of society… For over 30 years, the LCC has used a conditional use permit to limit helipad access at neighboring Seattle Children’s Hospital. They steer a Medical Review Committee & review flight logs to ensure that only the “most critical” emergency patients are allowed to land at Children’s Hospital because they’re concerned about helicopter noise disturbing them inside their mansions… while kids are dying 🤬 Many children must be rerouted to a helipad located a mile away, where they’re transferred to an ambulance for the rest of their journey. Children’s Hospital is the primary pediatric emergency & referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana, & Idaho. Any child being airlifted to a hospital via helicopter is probably experiencing a medical emergency. These people on the LCC are ghouls… as depicted on one of Smol Dog’s newest signs. They deserve to be ridiculed & harassed. There’s been a much-deserved & immense public backlash against the LCC. Seattle Children’s Hospital released a statement this week saying the LCC would support SCH as it seeks city approval to end the Medical Review Committee for helicopter landings. We’ll see... LCC should release a statement of their own but they haven’t yet 🤔 After the street rally, protestors marched through the Laurelhurst neighborhood. There was another golden dressed as a Medevac helicopter 🚁 And we had a vuvuzela brigade join us for the march! Smol Dog also appeared in the Seattle Times recap. Eddie and I headed over to Seattle Children's Hospital to join our friends @defundmusk , @gem.seattle , @dash.dog and more. Laurelhurst Community Council caved on medevac flights, but there's still work to do to ensure kids get the care without nimby interference. #seattle #pnw #Washingtonstate

Yesterday was a grrrrreat day! The hooman & I participated in the Wag Love Life Walk & Run benefiting @caninecanceralliance 🐾 The temperature was already in the 70’s when the event started 🥵 so it was more walking than running. We also met some friends 😊 We finally met Buddy (aka King Buddy 👑 & @agoldenandfam ). Buddy’s a 9-year old golden retriever 💛 He & his hoomans live near Vancouver, BC 🇨🇦 Buddy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in January & told his life expectancy was 2-3 months. There are a few clinical trials that might help Buddy, but access was somewhat limited. My hooman called some connections at CCA & @wsuvetmed . We were able to help Buddy get into a promising immunotherapy/cancer vaccine trial. It hasn’t been smooth sailing the entire time (it’s cancer, after all) but Buddy’s been responding pretty well to the treatment. He was a rock star during yesterday’s walk, even with the heat! He walked almost the entire route & had plenty of pep in his step 💪 Buddy’s hoomans live-streamed most of the walk & were the event’s top fundraisers, raising over $5000 for canine cancer research! We also met another golden named Zeus. My hooman used to be a triathlon coach & Zeus’s hooman is one of his former teammates. Zeus is just 5-years old & was diagnosed with lymphoma a week ago 😢 Buddy, Zeus & I walked together and finished the 5k at the same time. Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer. Did you know that cancer affects dogs more frequently than hoomans? 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with a type of cancer. Spending time with Buddy & Zeus, and the recent 2nd anniversary of the end of Dash’s fight with histiocytic sarcoma, was a reminder that progress is being made in the fight against canine cancer… but there’s still much more work to be done. CCA is funding important studies & clinical trials to discover safer, more effective, & more affordable treatments for canine cancers. When Dash became famous in 2018, we decided to use his celebrity status for good things.
