Eddie and I headed over to Seattle Children's Hospital to join our friends @defundmusk , @gem.seattle , @dash.dog and more. Laurelhurst Community Council caved on medevac flights, but there's still work to do to ensure kids get the care without nimby interference. #seattle #pnw #Washingtonstate

GEM’s Seattle Handmaids at Pioneer Square Art Walk (May and April) The art walk is one of our favorite canvassing events to do our guerrilla theatre actions at, with an extremely receptive and engaged crowd. We are now also gathering petition signatures for the Equal Rights Amendment. We have already gotten hundreds, despite many not even knowing what the ERA is. We are looking forward to next time, and to eventually helping to gather the 1 million signatures needed for this effort! Sign here: #eranow #seattle #pnw

Demonstrators with @uw_sds and other orgs gathered in red square today to celebrate TPUSA cancelling their event as well as to remember the 19 year old trans woman and student who was murdered on Sunday. @gem.seattle brought some chalk 👀. EDIT: the victim has now been identified as Juniper Blessing.

The @eracoalition came to Seattle yesterday (5-10-26) to gather petition signatures for the @sign4era movement, hosted by @gem.seattle . They gathered signatures at the Reign FC game and the waterfront, followed by mayor Katie Wilson signing their petition this morning. The ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) aims to enshrine the equal rights of women in the constitution. Currently the only time women are expressly mentioned in the constitution or any amendment is the 19th - which gave women the right to vote.

05-09-26 Laurelhurst Seattle Protest and march through the Laurelhurst neighborhood opposing the voluntary agreement between the Laurelhurst Community Council and Seattle Children's Hospital, which disallows Life Flight medical helicopters from landing directly at SCH, except in the most extreme emergency situations. The voluntary agreement is tentatively suspended, pending review by the City and Department of Construction and Inspections. The LCC agreement stipulated that ‘non-emergency’ life flights must land at Graves Field, adjacent to the UW campus. Patients would then be transferred to an ambulance to endure a 10+ minute ride to the Children’s Hospital. The agreement also insisted that SCH provide a justification and report to an LCC ‘Medical Review Committee’ to review for each flight. Laurelhurst Community Council has also prohibited hospital employees from parking in and around the Laurelhurst neighborhood and has also prevented expansion of the hospital. Seattle Children’s Hospital is one of the premier pediatric hospitals in the nation; serving not just Washington, but four other states in the region: Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. @gem.seattle

UPDATE: We are happy that LCC made the right choice after public outcry to reduce their helicopter restrictions on Seattle children’s hospital, but we would like to still highlight the neighborhood’s continued restriction to vital infrastructure and operations that SCH has tried to implement over the decades. This is not a stand alone issue, but one that impacts the greater PNW community as a larger problem. All in all, we are happy to see progress on the problem and would like to show out in solidarity for SCH and celebration of this small victory. But also to demand that LCC show consistent support in their future decisions, as well as helping community members who have been impacted by their restrictions thus far

You may have seen in the news that Seattle Children’s Hospital is not allowed to land its helicopters directly at the hospital much of the time, and instead land over a mile away. This is abhorrent, but it’s 100% true. Multiple insiders have spoken up about this, and the hospital is very much in favor of removing this policy. The only obstacle is a percentage of local Laurelhurst residents who value their peace and quiet over the lives of sick and injured children. Besides the health and safety of children being transported by Med-Evac, the policy also burdens them with costly ambulance rides, which often aren’t covered by insurance, and burdens the Med-Evac system with more time their personnel are occupied facilitating the transfer before getting back in the air and being available for another call. The Laurelhurst Community Council has made clear they are more interested in noise levels than patient wellbeing. Let Seattle know you disagree with the Council, and want the noise ordinance gone no matter what, at the UPCOMING PROTEST: 11:30 AM, Saturday May 9th, at the intersection of Sand Point Way and NE 45th St. We will be waving signs, making noise, and distributing flyers. Come join us! Bring a friend! Make your community the way you want it. Gender Equity Movement’s Seattle Handmaids took to Windermere Cup yesterday, May 2nd in order to gather signatures for the petition promoting the recognition of the Equal Rights Amendment into the United States Constitution. Info: The Equal Rights Amendment states that equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex. Sadly, this is STILL not recognized nationally despite having the needed number of states that have adopted it into their state constitutions. So, we are going another route! The national ERA Tour is on a campaign to get signatures from 100 mayors and 1 million voters. These signatures will be presented to the Senate to pressure them to vote yes on the proposed ERA amendment. We already have enough votes in the house, so this is our next hurdle to get this amendment finally recognized as duly ratified. Please help us assist in this effort by signing the petition using the link below: #eranow #womensrights #feminist
