🌏for Cities Week 2026 is finally starting this weekend.
In the midst of an increasingly complex global situation, this year’s program will be grounded in Islamabad and shaped primarily by our local collaborators in Pakistan. We’re grateful to be able to continue this platform through their knowledge, care, and commitment.
Over the week, we’ll explore the theme “Heights” through a series of sessions and hands-on workshops that read the city from multiple perspectives:
We’ll hear from architects and researchers like Ar. Hassan Daniyal, who approaches cities as living stories shaped through design and social relationships, and Amal Khurram, whose work examines urban food insecurity through governance, space, and infrastructure.
Our workshops invite participants to engage directly with the city
– Food Circulations: Mapping Urban Feeding Networks
Tracing how cities are fed by mapping the journeys of food—from farms to markets to neighborhoods—revealing the spatial, political, and ecological systems behind everyday life. @zazaaland
– Cultural Hierarchies: Reading the City
A collaborative mapping exercise following field visits, unpacking the visible and invisible layers of urban life—from physical elevations to social and cultural structures.
– Reimagining Signage: Visible and Invisible of the City
An exploration of Islamabad’s visual language, from formal systems to informal signs, as a reflection of the city’s evolving identity. @tehzeebhassanwork
Together, these sessions open up ways of seeing the city not just as form, but as a network of relationships, stories, and flows.
Looking forward to sharing this week with you👏
In a time of hurried lives and thinning relations, the Shared Table series return to the simple act of being together at the table.
We open our home to people who would like to share a meal and conversation while children play freely under a sun that is still forgiving at this time of year. Let’s revive kinship over meal, one afternoon at a time.

Just returned from two incredibly meaningful weeks in Chiang Mai, where I had the pleasure of being part of For Cities Week. It was a thoughtful gathering of practitioners, designers, and thinkers exploring Tropical Urbanism through grounded and diverse perspectives.
Visiting @jaibaanstudio Studio and @sher_maker maker Studio was a quiet reminder of what it means to stay rooted, in place, in materials, and in community. Their work speaks with care, intention, and depth.
It was a real pleasure working with the For Cities team whose thoughtful curation, openness, and dedication made this experience possible. I truly appreciated the space they created for meaningful exchange, reflection, and slowing down.
These two weeks were filled with conversation, local wisdom, and shared curiosity.
It was a powerful reminder of how important it is to engage more deeply with our own landscapes and to slow down, observe, and listen closely to the layers of our local context before reaching for solutions.
Looking forward to continuing this momentum — and to welcoming @for_cities in Islamabad soon.
Lal Kurti by Night | Unfolding the Stories of the City
As part of Lal Kurti by Night—an event by @pindiheritagetours , I had the privilege of joining as a storyteller, weaving narratives about the urban and architectural fabric of this historic bazaar.
Walking through its narrow lanes, past buildings dating back to the 16th century, was more than just a tour—it was a journey through time. As a site of my personal research, Lalkurti has always fascinated me with its layered histories, colonial imprints, and the resilience of its local communities. Every facade, every doorway, every bazaar stall holds a story waiting to be told.
This night was not just about revisiting the past but also about questioning the future—how do we preserve, honor, and evolve with these spaces? The conversation doesn’t end here. Let’s continue exploring, documenting, and celebrating the heritage embedded in our cities.
Urban Heritage Walk - How well do you really know your city? Its architecture, its streets, its evolving urban fabric?
We explored Islamabad through a different lens—its heritage, infrastructure, and the stories embedded in its urban landscape. With 40 participants, we walked, observed, and sparked meaningful conversations about the past, present, and future of our city. From colonial-era remnants to modern urban challenges, the dialogue was rich, thought-provoking, and necessary.
Urban spaces shape us, but do we shape them back? Let’s keep the conversation going!
We embarked on a captivating architectural journey through
Morocco’s iconic cities! From the vibrant streets of Casablanca to the historical landmarks in Rabat, Fez, Marrakesh, and Chefchaouen - each step revealed a rich tapestry of design and history. Marvel at the intricate details of mosques, madrasas, Riads and more that showcased the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
The bustling medians were the highlight of our journey. We explored these fascinating destinations where every building told a story of craftsmanship and beauty. Imm #MoroccoArchitecture

Each ‘bab’ tells a unique story with its intricate carvings, vibrant colors and traditional designs. These stunning architectural masterpieces not only served as entrances to homes and buildings, but also told a story of craftsmanship and artistry that has been passed down through generations.
We were struck by the magnificent art work on these doors. We were lost in the charm and history as we wandered through the bustling medinas and discovered these hidden gems. #morocco🇲🇦 #doorsofmorocco #architecturephotography
