📜 In 1776, the Declaration wasn’t yet a cherished symbol — it was urgent news, racing from printing presses to soldiers, diplomats, and ordinary people across a nation at war.
Dr. Sneff takes us back to that moment of uncertainty, tracing how the Declaration traveled across the new nation and around the Atlantic world — through printers, translators, and diplomats who carried its words into the unknown.
Join us VIRTUALLY on May 12 at noon for our Tuesday Talk: ✨ When the Declaration of Independence Was News
🎓 Dr. Emily Sneff is an early American historian and leading expert on the Declaration of Independence. She earned her Ph.D. from William & Mary and serves as a consulting curator for America 250 exhibitions at the Museum of the American Revolution and Historic Trappe.

🌸 What an evening at the DAR Museum!
Last night’s program kicked off with a tour with Museum Director and Chief Curator Jennifer Johnson, who led attendees through our current exhibitions “Revolution in Their Words” and “Preserving Patriotism: The Declaration of Independence and Its Legacy at DAR.”
From there, Diana Parsell took the floor for her talk on “Eliza Scidmore: The Trailblazing Journalist Behind Washington’s Cherry Trees,” and she did not disappoint. The unvarnished story behind how Washington’s beloved cherry blossoms came to be planted is one that deserves to be told every single spring.
A heartfelt thank you to President General Mrs. Storage for honoring us with opening remarks, and to all the DAR executives who joined us for the evening. 🥂
If you missed it, pick up a copy of Diana’s book. It belongs on the reading list of every cherry blossom lover in DC and beyond. Available in person at the DAR Museum Shop and online (link in our bio)!

🎨 Earlier this week, the DAR Museum had the pleasure of hosting a Museum Studies graduate class in Exhibition Development from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design at GW for a curator-led tour of our exhibitions.
Our curator Carrie Bough had a wonderful time guiding the group through the space and diving into the conversations that followed. From exhibition design and presentation to the thought and intention behind educational programming, it was a rich and engaging discussion with a talented group of future museum professionals.
