Each year, the National Conference of State Societies hosts the Cherry Blossom program to celebrate the relationship between the US and Japan and the gorgeous Cherry Blossom trees along the Tidal Basin.This year is particularly special with the gift of 250 Cherry Blossom trees to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.Program delegates represent their home states and territories to the program and visit the White House, Congress, Embassies, the state department and more.Here’s a glimpse into the week as a princess

🌸🩷 Each year, the National Conference of State Societies hosts the Cherry Blossom program to celebrate the relationship between the US and Japan and the gorgeous Cherry Blossom trees along the Tidal Basin. It is always an honor for each Cherry Blossom Program class to attend the Cherry Blossom Reception at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence. Last evening’s reception was filled with conversation, laughter, and the beauty of the ongoing American-Japanese friendship. Thank you and congratulations to our WSS VP of Corporate Engagement, Maria Giannopoulos (@greekmaria), for her leadership and fantastic work managing the 2026 Cherry Blossom Program (@cherryblossomprogram)!In addition to her role on the WSS Board, Maria serves as Vice President of Events for the National Conference of State Societies, the umbrella organization for all state societies in Washington, D.C.In this role, Maria has done an amazing job planning activities and leading the 2026 Cherry Blossom Program (@cherryblossomprogram) delegates, young women representing US states and territories, across Washington, D.C. this past week for a series of once-in-lifetime educational, cultural, and professional development opportunities.Maria led this year’s delegates through visits to embassies, the US State Department, the White House, the Japanese Ambassador’s residence, a professional development panel at the US Capitol, and so much more.Thank you, Maria, for all your hard work to make this program a success!

We are grateful for our partnership with Congressional leaders that support our Cherry Blossom Delegates each year.It was a delight to have @sencapito, alumna of the Cherry Blossom program join us at the reception.An additional thank you to all the Members of Congress who escorted our delegates last night and to the @japanembassydc for their steadfast partnership.

Stepping into diplomacy and dialogue We were honored to visit the US Department of State, and hear from Cate Dillon, the State Department’s White House Liaison. The visit was an inspiring reminder of the power of cultural exchange, leadership, and global connection.-A huge thank you to Cate, for speaking to the delegates and to the State Department’s Public Engagement team for coordinating the visit!!
