Danilo Andrés DANCE & VOICE DISTORTION - Workshop
The workshop consists of a combination of movement meditation & introduction to vocal practices, such as growling and distortion of the voice. Danilo Andrés will provide dynamic breathing exercises to support the voice work, and on a creative level they will stimulate the participants to create their own mantras and vocal incantations, which aim to animate the dancing body.
BIO
Danilo Andrés is a queer vocalist, choreographer and visual artist with 4 years experience with diverse extreme vocal techniques, such as: Overtone, Throat singing & False Chord among others. Because of their work with guttural voice and vocal practices, they have been awarded with the Pina Bausch Fellowship 2024 ( @pinabauschfoundation ), supported by Brut Vienna @brut_wien . Currently they teach their dance class „Practices of Animation of the Matter“ and „Dance & Voice Distortion“ in Tanzquartier Vienna.
**The workshop is particularly suitable for dancers, musicians and performers, as well as for all artists who are interested in creative work with voice**

In PURGA, Danilo Andrés explores the interfaces between voice, body & spirituality in Performance. Danilos current voice research is focussed on rituals of spirit possession, trance states and the invocation of spiritual energies. Through the use of vocal practices such as Overtone singing and guttural voices they create vocal scores that act as portals to the spiritual world. The ongoing research explores how supernatural energies, spirits and demons influence physical expression, and how dance can be harnessed as a medium for spiritual transformation.

Danilo Andrés (they/them) @daniloandrestrauko is a Berlin based dancer, choreographer and visual artist. During their fellowship in 2024, Danilo and their cooperating partner, Veza Fernandez @vezamaria , did a joint research of the aesthetics of guttural voices and screams, examining their potential to dissolve human-non-human boundaries. Supported by brut Wien @brut_wien this fellowship explored the transformative power of voice and screaming in performing art.
Save the date 22 to 24 May 2026: The Pina Bausch Fellowship for Dance and Choreography celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026. Pina Bausch Foundation and Kunststiftung NRW will invite to a three-day Fellowship Ideas Lab to explore future directions of artistic practice. The Ideas Lab will bring together fellows from different years, as well as local and international experts, and members of the wider dance and arts community. Further details will be announced soon!
There is no regular fellowship call for applications in 2026. We will inform about future calls for applications in due course!

**PRACTICES OF ANIMATION OF THE MATTER **
we work with the amplification of breathing and gaze as the main tools to create dance and performance. We bring the body in motion, keeping in mind the concept of a body always in excess, monstrous, porous, endless, and open to mutating with the environment, melting beyond the limits of ‘human anatomy’. The dance work consists of manifesting in space the power of raw energy, and the reverberance of the movement of the inner cores of the body: cellular breathing, fluids, heartbeats, and
volume of breath. Dancers will be encouraged to work with a high level of availability and
malleability, not only in the body & specially in their level of attention and energetic
states.
