INVITATION TO OPEN CONVERSATION AND COLLABORATION
“Let’s support & create together on different scales”
Why do we need self-organised community projects and artist self supporting networks today? How can we learn from and take care of each other through this intense but creative process?
Moderators: Nagao Akemi and Thomas Diafas
21& 22 APRIL 18.00-20.00 AT KUNSTHAUS KULE
SOPA INVITES YOU TO AN OPEN CONVERSATION HOSTED BY NAGAO AKEMI AND THOMAS DIAFAS, ARTISTS AND RESEARCHERS INTERESTED IN CARE AND PERFORMANCE.
IN THIS MEETING, WE AIM TO GO BEYOND THEORY AND CONCEPTS: TO CREATE A WORKING, SUSTAINABLE SAFETY-NET WHERE ARTISTS (PROFESSIONALS, AMATEURS, EDUCATORS ETC.) CAN MEET ACTIVELY SUPPORTING EACH OTHER, EXCHANGING SKILLS, IDEAS, OPPORTUNITIES AND INSPIRATION FOR FUTURE COLLABORATIONS.
SOPA is a self organised initiative that supports artists in the performing arts/performance art field who wish to share their work and methodologies through workshops, performances, lectures and other formats. We provide you with a theatre and a gallery space (Kunsthaus KuLe), taking care of the organisational part on a donation basis.

19/3 at 19.00: Berkay Soykan & Αzul (crochet workshop & social gathering)
collective y(e)arning sheds crocheting to its collective essence, breaking it down to its main ingredients: communion, exchanging and story-telling. this artistic object playfully weaves this technique, allowing it to generate as a self growing organism. by giving no specific results of what to be expected, all its shapes and curves come from their participants’ willingness to give and receive, to stitch, twist and undo, as a never ending tale of textile possibilities. these reunions have consistent of informal meetings, gathering groups of friends, neighbours, community and family members, to experience craft time together through a common practice. no previous experience is required, nor is there any social expectation on interaction: here is a space for being. through a series of continuous episodes, the long-term vision is to simply see this piece grow, at its own pace, while documenting the weavers as they enter.

19/3 17.00 Second Score Reading Group by Catwings
Our second reading group session turns to specific historical moments in which artists, writers, and cultural workers demanded radical transformation of the conditions of cultural production. Starting with a score and notes left in the margins, we engage with different movements that did not simply remain in critique, but attempted to reconfigure how art is made, shared, and lived.
Working with a score for collective reading, we will read aloud, pause, repeat, and discuss together. Following these texts, we ask what it means to re-read these movements now: not as closed chapters, but as unfinished propositions for which reenactment could function as a radical strategy. What does it mean to rehearse the gestures, methods, and imaginaries of past struggles in the present moment? Where do their urgencies resonate, fracture, or demand revision?
Texts will be shared in advance, and spontaneous drop-ins are warmly welcome. We will read excerpts together in person and experiment with different forms of collective engagement. The session lasts about 2 hours and takes place in English.

18/3 at 17.00 Performative coordinated protest by Zeynep Sami (Workshop)
a protest methodology structured through performance instructions and choreographic principles
Short description:
Zeynep Sami presents their artistic practice of performative coordinated protest through a workshop and an open public event. Drawing on previous artistic and political experiences, they create a space where participants are invited to explore and contribute their own approaches to collective action.
The workshop focuses on the participatory design of performance art within political organizing and unfolds in two parts. In the first part, Zeynep Sami shares knowledge and insights drawn from their past performance projects. In the second part, participants collaboratively develop a performative coordinated protest: shaping their own language and methodologies, creating a readable map of actions, and reflecting on how these approaches can be integrated into their own lives and practices.
The workshop concludes with an open event in which participants share the materials and ideas developed during the process.

CANCELLED 18/3 14.00 Sometimes Nothingness by Tingan Ying(Workshop)
photo: Lys Y Seng
What is the role of our bodies in the thought process? How can we proactively integrate embodiment knowledge as a navigator for a more resilient creative process? Grounded in the research-practice Sometimes Nothingness, developed by Ting-An Ying, this workshop serves as a laboratory for practitioners from all disciplines to explore questions on collaboration and coexistence—specifically in response to the constant fatigue caused by socio-political pressure and unspoken power dynamics.
The practice establishes an intentional, meditative state through various sets of bodily exercises that invite participants to navigate their inner landscapes. By deconstructing compartmentalization, the body becomes a site of authenticity. Participants are guided to craft their own methodologies within this collective workshop and are highly encouraged to bring in their existing practices.
