The new Special Edition of IT’S FREEZING IN LA! (@itsfreezinginla ) is out now! Inside, I wrote a piece about how mainstream photographic coverage of the climate crisis is failing to convey the issue in all of its nuance and complexity. Instead, we need new narratives and perspectives that can inspire and facilitate sustainable activism. We need stories that peel back the dense layers of the problem, highlight some of the solutions, and, crucially, envision more positive futures 🌞 Many thanks to Jack Shainman Gallery (@jackshainman ), Richard Mosse (@idvv_richardmosse ), Ciril Jazbec (@ciriljazbec ), Lena C Emery (@lena_c_emery ) and Eleanor Leydon (@srleleanor ) for their contributions to the article. And thanks to Martha Dillon (@martha__dillon ), Nina Carter (@ninarosiekelleycarter ) and the rest of the IFLA! team for the opportunity 🥂

I had the pleasure of interviewing Richard Mosse again, this time for @ngvmelbourne about the world premiere of his new film Broken Spectre. Much like his photo series Tristes Tropiques, the film is a visually arresting study of environmental degradation in the Amazon rainforest. It engages with the issue through shifting scales of focus, from the macro to the micro, showing the pervasiveness of the destruction. It’s currently on display at the NGV until April 2023, but for those of you in London, you can catch it at @180.studios until 18 December 🎥 Not one to be missed! (The full interview with Richard can be found in the Nov-Dec 2022 issue of NGV Magazine 📖)

Super excited to announce that Season 2 of The Breakdown, which I co-wrote with @earthrise.studio , is out now on @waterbearnetwork . The Breakdown is a short film series that explores some of the most pressing environmental questions of our time, from capitalism and overpopulation, to sustainability and eco-anxiety. All of the episodes are currently available to watch for free on WaterBear (link in bio), and will also be released on the Earthrise YouTube channel next week. Many thanks to @jackharries @aliceaedy and the rest of the Earthrise team for trusting me with this project. It was an absolute pleasure! 🙏🏼🌻

Out now! My interview with @chloedewemathews for @natgeo . We spoke about her new book Thames Log (published by @jointsloose ) which is the result of five years spent photographing the River Thames, from source to mouth. Chloe wanted to understand how we relate to the river and how different communities engage with it, from the practical to the spiritual. An exhibition of the work opens today at @martinparrfdn in Bristol. If you’re in the area, make sure to take a look! Thanks to @mr_simon_ingram for his help with the article. Interviewed @_jennylewis_ about her brilliant new book One Hundred Years for @bjp1854 . It’s an insightful look at the diverse London borough of Hackney, composed of 100 portraits of 100 residents aged 0-100. Seven of the portraits are currently on display along Regent’s Canal, near the first entrance to Victoria Park. Go check it out! The book is published by @hoxtonminipress and is available to purchase through their website 📚

My interview with photographer Richard Mosse about his latest project in the Amazon is out today on the @guardian . In this new series, Tristes Tropiques, Richard uses multispectral photography to capture sites of environmental destruction across the rainforest and the neighbouring Pantanal region. The resulting images show in amazing detail how deforestation, intensive cattle farming, gold mining and other methods of production and extraction are destroying one of the world’s most important ecosystems and threatening its Indigenous communities. Follow the link in the bio to find out more! 🌲 Tristes Tropiques will be on show at @jackshainman in New York from 8th April.
