Happy Mother’s Day to all the tenacious, persistent, loving and silly moms out there. I see you all working for a world of joy, care and peace. I’m with you and hold deep amounts of gratitude.
My drawing practice is a place where I pause and take a moment to rest, where I can see myself reflected back, where I can make sense of our world, or tap into the liminal spaces I adore. I lower my shoulders and soften my hand, observing the stress in my body or the worries in my head. It’s a moment when I can release myself from time and expectation.
It’s care as priority.
Looking at spaces, forms and the practices of compassion. Building objects and exploring minds, communities, eco-systems that value safety and honor the need to continuously generate care.
Here I look to the hood as a place to guard from the pressure of hate and violence, to find solace in the flow of softness, if only for ten minutes. Its form is deeply rooted in both survival and death, hate and care. How do we create sustainable peace when rage tramples every moment of everyday?
Plants love to hold hands too.
@robinwallkimmerer shifted my perspective of plants so significantly that i now trust the relationships i have with them and they have with each other. I love waking to their color and sunning along side them at the big window. We have a good time.
The actions and commitment of those i deeply love mended my heart this weekend. It was a profound experience being held in an out pouring of compassionate and generous energy. I’m forever grateful to my children, my friends and family, the delightful strangers and our kind neighbors who came to generously support our transition into new beginnings. I love you all. Thank you, thank you💝
