On our last night near the desert, I was chatting with an older guy and he said ‘we might not like talking about stuff, but blokes heal by being.’
Being.
That inner sense of who we are, separate from what we do, or where we’re going. A flame that is always burning, often overlooked.
I’ve spent the last 2 weeks crossing the Simpson Desert, making a documentary about Alex, who set out to cross Australia’s harshest wilderness on a motorbike - alone and unsupported.
We’ve raised over $12K for the Men’s Shed through this journey - and have been blown away by the openness of men to chat about their experiences with mental health, and this question of finding fulfilment.
The film is about learning to listen again. To the land around us, to each other, and that precious flame that is always burning. Our own Being.
I’m really excited to share more. Follow @rideformenssheds for updates. What an adventure it’s been! 🐪 🏜️ 🌵
Namaste homies 🙏🏼#
Grateful for the hospitality of these beautiful people, and for sharing their world with me. Nuri, Pemba, Basu, and all my monk homies. Always the temptation to shave my head and join them.
