I’m notoriously bad at stopping and smelling the roses so I’m putting this here to remind myself. This will be my final post for 2023 so I can go away to work on finishing orchestration and credit sequence for ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’. I’m shutting my socials down, putting my phone in a drawer and getting back to work. FutureNever was the most gratifying creative experience of my career, it was gratifying because of YOU all. I’ve never felt more connected to the people who have supported the podcast, the album and the exhibition. ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is coming in early 2024, I’m disappearing into the studio now to finalise the orchestration. In pretty big personal news, I’ve just signed the most important songwriting deal of my career with BMG, including all of my songs from ‘Frogstomp’ to ‘FutureNever’ and everything in between. The team @bmgausnz also just came up to my house and presented me with this wild plaque celebrating FutureNever being announced as ARIA’s highest selling new Australian Album of 2022, spending 7 weeks in the Top 10 (and 2 weeks at #11 😂) and going #1 twice. I don’t really hang plaques in my house but I’m hanging this one in my living room because it’s a reminder of the love from you all and it means more than you’ll ever know. It also lights up. Although it’s a solo album, FutureNever had many collaborative elements and I’ve been sharing the @aria_official trophies presented to my dear friends who helped create FN. Thank you to @eddiezammit @allaboutgraphics BMG and @rialtomelbourne - because in mind blowing news ‘Past, Present and FutureNever’ has won 2 awards at the FESPA’s in Munich @fespagram - beating out the FIFA World Cup for the coveted ‘Best In Show’ Award. Thank you also to @spotifyaunz for this epic plaque commemorating the global success of ‘Who Is Daniel Johns?’. Thank you to the @australianpodcastawards for the ‘Spotlight Award’. Thank you to @ausindies for awarding FutureNever Best Pop Album in 2023. I’m loving being a truly independent artist making everything on my own terms. Love you, I’ll find you in the NeverAfter 💕

One of the motivating factors behind my ‘comeback’ was to use my platform for good. Today we reached an incredible milestone with confirmation that through personal and public donations we’ve now raised and disbursed over $100,000. I want to thank everyone who has contributed in any way, large or small. Together we’ve helped rescue and care for the beautiful Sweep with @animalsasia and just made a further donation to contribute towards building a new sanctuary in Vietnam and rescue the remaining bears being abused in bear farms so we can end this cruel practice for good. Together we’ve just joined with my dear friend @dylanalcott to provide a $15k scholarship to help fund an Australian with a disability to pursue their dreams in the Arts space. Together we have provided much needed funds to the wonderful people at @equienergyyouth youth to help roll out their TAR3 program across the country to help young people in severe emotional stress. This week we are making a meaningful donation to @awabakal_ltd a locally based First Nations community organisation who in their own words “care for our people’s health, their teeth and their mental wellbeing. Help our people quit the smokes. Care for Mums to be, new Mums and their babies. We educate our kids, support our youth, help our people access the NDIS and provide care for our elders.” We’ve continued our support for @dog_rescue_newcastle including paying for the legendary Frenchie Bohdi’s skin treatment. We’ve adopted the iconic Bat ‘Scoundrel’ and continued our support for @batrescueinc We used our ‘Nup To The Cup’ campaign with @eddiezammit and @dizzylittledotty to make a donation to @horserescueaustralia We’ve continued our support for @supportact an incredible organisation doing amazing things. We’ve also made some confidential donations to individuals in need. It’s a privilege to be in a position to play a small part in positive change, it’s been inspiring to see so many of you making donations at a time when living costs are so high. This is not a film about silverchair, ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is a parallel universe where the DNA is similar but the species is different. Enter ‘mindriot’, this was the name we almost called ‘silverchair’ based on a Soundgarden song I loved. This is my twisted versions of events, warped by the speed of time travel and presented in a format that was inspired by the $2 weekly rental section at Video Ezy. I provided the songs and ‘mindriot’ created the noise. To celebrate the birth of ‘mindriot’ we commissioned Ben Brown who made so much iconic Australian ‘90s merch including some super rare silverchair tees to make some very limited ‘mindriot’ tees and foil prints that will be available at the Premiere events. If you’re coming to Sydney on Saturday get to the merch desk early because there are limited quantities of some special stuff. See you in the pit.
