✨🎓Monroe AVID showed UP and showed OUT! 🎓✨ We are so proud to share highlights from our 2025-2026 AVID Certification Meeting, where our incredible team had the opportunity to showcase all the amazing things we do here at James Monroe High School — and we did NOT disappoint! 10 of our AVID site team members stepped up to present to feeder schools and partner schools across Region North, representing Monroe with excellence and passion. We also had the privilege of visiting other schools and learning from the great work happening across our region. That’s the beauty of AVID — we grow together. 🩵💙🩵💙 None of this would be possible without the extraordinary leadership of three women who are truly the driving force behind LAUSD’s entire AVID program: 💙 Ms. Maria Pineda 🩵 Ms. Erin Yoshida 💙 Ms. Dani de Jesus Thank you for your vision, your dedication, and your unwavering commitment to every student and school you serve. Tommo, I will never forget the day you became my knight in shining armor at Dog N Duck and got into it with that douchebag with the huge ego! You even went on to defend that little guy cuz that douchebag was such a bully. As soon as I saw you brawling with that asshole in the parking lot, I knew we were forever family. From all our dinners, holidays, beach days, massages, and just shooting the shit, you will always be my guy. The guy who lights up a room with his smile and laugh. The guy who knows how to make everyone feel welcomed and safe. The guy who loves his ‘ohana with all his heart. You are truly ONE OF A KIND! The world will NEVER know another Tommo and we are so much better for it. I love you with all my heart and soul. You are my FAMILY and I can’t thank you enough for all the beautiful memories and for giving us all so much of yourself. I am comforted knowing that you’ll have Zoey and ‘Olina and all our fur babies up there to take care of you and that you all will be laughing and frolicking on the grassy knolls up to no good. You will be missed tremendously. But I also know that this isn’t goodbye. We will all meet again, drink our whiskey, maybe eat balut, and have many more adventures together. New project alert! An intimate, short documentary film, Mysterious Bird features Gabriela Quintero of Grammy-winning duo @rodrigoygabriela as she writes her first solo record. Inspired by the birds of Zihuatanejo, Mexico, the making of the album reveals an unexpected animal activist.
