Let’s begin again, together. As proud as we are of Dance Massive’s massive legacy, now is the moment for a new moment. Following more than three years of conversation, collaboration and co-design, FRAME: A biennial of dance (@framebiennial ) is coming March 2023. FRAME is an invitation to assemble, discuss, participate and witness dance. It is a new festival of connection and celebration. The inaugural FRAME program will be announced soon. Stay in touch to discover the dimensions of FRAME. We can’t wait to welcome you. @framebiennial #framebiennial

As you may have heard, Dance Massive won’t be going ahead in March 2021. We are taking this moment to consider the next steps for dance in a changed world. And so, @artshouse and @dancehouse.melb , with support from @creative_vic , have appointed four independent arts practitioners — Mariaa Randall, Luke George, Priya Srinivasan and Tam Nguyen — to lead a community co-design and explore the potential of a dedicated contemporary dance festival in Melbourne.⠀ ⠀ The Co-Design team will be listening to your input via an online survey ➡️ link in Arts House bio. Survey closes on 31 Oct.⠀ ⠀ Learn how you can be part of the Co-Design through the link in bio.

Thank you for making Dance Massive, massive.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Dance Massive 2019 was a truly monumental celebration of the joy of dance. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ We awed at the murmuration created by 400 dancers at Birrarung Marr, witnessed a celebration of urban dance culture with a battle on the streets of Melbourne, whizzed between black boxes to see as much extraordinary dance as possible, we conversed, discussed, shared, mingled, but most importantly, we danced.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ This year, we delivered the most ambitious and most rewarding Dance Massive in the festival's history and we owe all of our artists, supporters, and you, the audience, a massive, heart-felt thank you.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ See you in 2021. ⁣ ⁣⁣ #dancemassive2019 @artshouse @dancehouse.melb @malthousetheatre @ausdance_victoria @abbotsfordconvent @thesubstation @temperance.hall ⁣⁣

Take a seat and watch as two humans navigate an environment of strange technological objects with no known function in UNIVERSAL ESTATE. ⁣ ⁣ Antony Hamilton's piece explores our throw-away society’s obsession with the next thing, and how we can find meaning in a world made up of the material things of past generations. ⁣ ⁣ Enter a world of light, sound, objects and movement; a living sculpture where retro-futurism meets contemporary nihilism.⁣ ⁣ UNIVERSAL ESTATE is a four-hour durational work; you may enter at any time and stay as long as you want.⁣ ⁣ Today and tomorrow, 6-10pm at Arts House. Free. ⁣ ⁣ #dancemassive2019 @artshouse @antonyhamilton

*MUST CLOSE TODAY* ⁣ HYPERSPACE is the third in a series of works from James Batchelor and his collaborators that grew from a unique opportunity to be part of a scientific expedition to study sub-Antarctic islands in 2016.⁣ ⁣ What's special about tonight's performance is that you can join James pre-show for WE MOVE YOU. ⁣ ⁣ WE MOVE YOU gives audiences new ways of appreciating choreography by first experiencing it corporeally. Upon arrival, audiences will be guided into experiencing the dance of the artist with their own body before watching the performance. This invitation embodies the idea that dance is the most participatory art form, best understood through dancing.⁣ ⁣ WE MOVE YOU - 5:00pm at Dancehouse⁣ HYPERSPACE - 6:30pm at Dancehouse⁣ ⁣ Tickets to the show and the pre-event are at dancemassive.com.au⁣ ⁣ 📷 Gregory Lorenzutti for Dancehouse⁣ ⁣ #dancemassive2019 @dancehouse.melb @jamesthebatch

In conjunction with HYPERSPACE, James Batchelor and Collaborators have commissioned artist Chloe Chignell to write an essay called A Strange Topology. ⁣ ⁣ 'This 3 part text is an experiment with narrative. It’s a poem, a letter, an essay. These texts take the hand, the eye and the world as protagonists to expand on ideas of touch and a choreography of relation. They question situation, territory and edges through the lens of choreography and performance. To imagine new possible orientations to ourselves and others.' ⁣ ⁣ Read the full essay on james-batchelor.com.au⁣ ⁣ HYPERSPACE closes tomorrow.⁣ ⁣ Tonight and tomorrow at 6:30pm at Dancehouse.⁣ ⁣ Book at dancemassive.com.au⁣ ⁣ #dancemassive2019 @dancehouse.melb

When dance artist Jo Lloyd was young, she would pretend to interview famous people she’d like to meet. OVERTURE is an extension of that, a dance that considers the unrequited, the unattainable and our attempts to connect with particular beings of obsession.⁣ ⁣ After wowing audiences and critics alike with the sell-out performance of OVERTURE in August 2018, Lloyd returns to Arts House bringing this dance show to life onscreen. ⁣ ⁣ Join her as she introduces these special screenings.⁣ ⁣ Free entrance | 8:45pm at Arts House until 24 March.⁣ #dancemassive2019 @artshouse @jolloyd4448
