Ngari Ngali-Wahlu is coming up 15/16/17 April so book now and don’t miss out, and until then let’s learn about one of our facilitators Biren Cultural Group 🙌🏾
…
Biren Cultural Group began 7 years ago as an after school social group for mob to connect to their identity. Over the past few years Biren has evolved and we have had the opportunity to explore different industries and make our cultural presence felt – Presenting culture at different festivals, Conferences and within schools.
Whilst evolution and growth are inevitable our mission remains the same as when we started “to connect mob, to reconnect mob and for mob to stay connected”. Basically, meaning we exist for those who have never had a place to learn their culture. We exist for a people to reconnect, maybe they’ve haven’t practiced culture for many years, or they are living away from country. We exist for mob to stay connected.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn from Biren Cultural Group and the other incredible facilitators 🔥
Applications close Midnight 12th April 🕺🏾

Ngari Ngali-Wahlu is coming up 15/16/17 April so book now and don’t miss out, and until then let’s learn about one of our facilitators Gabrielle Thomas 🙌🏾
…
Gabrielle Thomas is of Te Atiawa Ki Te Tau Ihu and Kai Tahu descent and grew up in Wellington. Gabrielle trained at New Zealand School of Dance and Unitec before dancing for some of NZ’s leading choreographers. She has dedicated her dance career to Māori Contemporary Dance, remaining a member of Atamira Dance Company since 2006.
Pūrākau (legends), whakapapa (genealogy) and her own personal experiences are some of what informs Gabrielle’s developing practice as a choreographer, exploring themes of birth, death, Te Ao Wairua and Te Taiao (the esoteric world and natural environment).
These concepts have given her choreographies a distinctive style.
Her love of toi māori and architecture influence her movement patterns and set design. Improvisation and sensory exploration are embedded into her development process. Gabrielle’s works have
been presented by Atamira in Aotearoa and abroad, travelling to places such as Canada, USA, Hawaii and Australia.
