At the beginning of the year I said I wanted to direct light comedy—because who couldn’t use a chuckle these days? Soon after I got the chance to direct this fun spot for Dockers. Whether it’s potty humor or poignant honesty, I love crafting authentic moments with a playful twist. This spring break our family joined our close friends @sandywilder2 @mattiswilder and @bayeswilder on a climbing trip in Red River Gorge, Kentucky—an endless expanse of stunning sandstone. When I wasn’t belaying or hauling myself up the rock or packing snacks, I tried my skill at climbing photography. Still true to form, I stuck with my old 35mm manual Voigtländer lens and kept my feet on the ground, while gaining a whole new respect for the photographers who rig themselves high above to get the shot. While there, Bayes (a.k.a. Big Brother Bayes) sent a 5.14c called Golden Ticket at just 14 years old. I first photographed Bayes coming into the world (literally) and now, watching him rise (also literally) into this moment was pretty epic.  But I think I’ll leave the big wall photo shoots to someone else! I return with scraped hands and sore arms; grateful for new perspectives, old friendships, and family adventures. Here’s a peek into our time there.  @downhill_daddy

11 years ago today, I started another full-time job: Mom. I’ve had the incredible joy of bringing Rio on set with me — he even earned his first film credit at a few months old as “Cultural Ambassador” - to screenings and recently in front of the camera. Momming is hard work and requires a similar skill set as directing - although perhaps a bit more bribery! I appreciate what Director Mona Fastvoid recently said in an interview: “Filmmaking is really a great place for women. . . the director should be the mother. Because a good mother, you’ll create a safe environment with strict directions and frames, feeling safe is also about knowing what the hell is going on . . . but then giving a lot of space for people to do their best work, and to nurture and also trust people that they are going to do a great job, and to leave your ego at the door.” Now if only I could have an AD, Craft Services, PA, Wardrobe and all the things helping me at home. Living the cowgirl dream! 🤠

We bought a raft! I am living out my teenage dream of being a river rat. Back in the day, my plan was to move to Colorado and become a river guide. It’s taken a little while, but I’m finally one step closer. Huge thanks to @theandreawest and @alex.daue for passing along their beloved raft, Noodle. Many river adventures await!
