This spring break our family joined our close friends @sandywilder2@mattiswilder and @bayeswilder on a climbing trip in Red River Gorge, Kentucky—an endless expanse of stunning sandstone.
When I wasn’t belaying or hauling myself up the rock or packing snacks, I tried my skill at climbing photography. Still true to form, I stuck with my old 35mm manual Voigtländer lens and kept my feet on the ground, while gaining a whole new respect for the photographers who rig themselves high above to get the shot.
While there, Bayes (a.k.a. Big Brother Bayes) sent a 5.14c called Golden Ticket at just 14 years old. I first photographed Bayes coming into the world (literally) and now, watching him rise (also literally) into this moment was pretty epic. But I think I’ll leave the big wall photo shoots to someone else!
I return with scraped hands and sore arms; grateful for new perspectives, old friendships, and family adventures. Here’s a peek into our time there. @downhill_daddy
Group 2: @danaromanoff took some amazing photos on our trip to Red River Gorge! The benefit of having a good friend who also happens to be a professional photographer is that you get great photos! Thanks for the fun adventures, laughs and photos Dana! Check out her website too: danaromanoff.com

As always I forgot to take photos so these are other people’s photos from our spring break trip to the Red River Gorge. Photos 1-10 are amazing shots by @adam_beebs of Bayes on Golden Ticket and 24 karats. (Thanks Adam! Nice to have professional quality, non-butt shots of @bayeswilder climbing!) The weather ranged from 20 degrees and snowy/icy to 80 degrees and humid! Tons of laughs - especially when I simul-climbed a nice crack with @danaromanoff that @downhill_daddy put up! 😂 And the best is saved for last - a new crag game called Thrust that @danaromanoff invented (filmed by Dax; cut off a bit).
New sport for high school! I’m OK with the race weekend destinations … Leadville, Steamboat, others to come. 🏔️ 🚲 Too bad I suck at taking photos to show all the friends we get to see for these camping race weekends… (all these pics/vids from others; thanks ya’ll!)
Patagonia trip! Torres del Paine (Chile) and El Chalten (Argentina). I need more time here. (A couple of these photos and the avalanche video were taken by friends on the trip - Shelley Tidd, Matt Foote, and Sarah Boyle.) Thanks to my Matt for holding down the fort with Bayes and encouraging this trip!
