So fun dusting off my trusty old Juno-106 today. 🎹 I was putting the finishing touches on a client mix and realized the pre-chorus was still missing that one little thing… not a big “look at me” moment—more like structural ear candy that pulls you into the next section. So I played this simple Juno part, sending it through my beloved Strymon StarLab eurorack reverb on its way into Pro Tools for a little extra fairy dust. 🧚✨🤌. It’s wild how a subtle synth layer can do more for momentum than another EQ move. Wow… feeling really grateful looking back at this year. 🙏💜 Every session, every late-night mix tweak, every artist trusting me with their songs - it all adds up to moments like this. Seeing these crazy @Muso.ai stats honestly leaves me humbled and a little speechless. It’s wild what can happen when you just keep showing up, keep learning, and keep saying “yes” to projects (and people!) that light you up. My high school self would never believe I’d one day co-produce & mix an album with Mike Patton. Back in junior high and high school, I spent countless hours mowing lawns and babysitting for pocket money. Always the little entrepreneur, I even printed up business cards that read: “Dana Nielsen: Lawn & Child Care” 😂. Out there with my yellow Sony Sports Walkman strapped to my hip, I blasted Mike Patton’s legendary voice above the roar of my lawnmower — Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, John Zorn, the Judgment Night soundtrack… on repeat. (See slide 2, lol) When I finally got my driver’s license, my friends and I rushed to The Metro in Chicago to see Mr. Bungle tear the roof off. Years later, while recording Slayer in 2009, I’d bug Dave Lombardo with fanboy questions about his work with Mike in Fantômas. Fast-forward to 2015: I met Scott and Seth Avett while working on True Sadness. We instantly clicked (10 years later we’re still having a blast 💜). One of the many things we’ve bonded over is our mutual lifelong admiration of Mike Patton. So to stand here today celebrating the announcement of this AVTT/PTTN record — and the release of its first single, Eternal Love — feels surreal. I co-produced this album with Mike and Scott, mixed it at my studio, and honestly, I’ve been giddy with excitement every step of the way. Huge thanks to @officialmikepatton , @avettar , @helloclove , @theavettbrothers , and the amazing teams at @ramseurrecords , @ipecacrecordings , @thirtytigers , @stephenmarcussen , @bakerymastering , and @deepfeelco 🙌 Eternal Love is out now (link in bio).
