1999->Strip Club->Mel’s Diner->Cyberpunks playing in my car. It was a blur. Magic happened. Real people make magic. And that sound was magic. That Automator moment, Del dropping 2 records simultaneously, I was in a whirlwind of talent and now I am grateful to have seen it first hand. To have been there.
25 years later. Let’s tell that story. Make a bite sized treat with flavors that attempt to live up to the meal of that divine record.
Everything about this project felt instinctual. From the vision to the team and the tone. I blame a lot of that on Dan, our conversations and his creative nudging. Never telling me what to do, but saying yes and no enough so that I got a sense of it, so it could sit beside the original work in the right way.
@justinpavioloknowles brought a flavor and a sense of commitment to making sure this didn’t look and feel like what we’ve come to expect from these types of little stories. I also don’t know what to expect, cause I am only interested in chasing down the illusive thing you start to feel. Justin felt it. His imagery is sublime.
@markcira crafted a beautiful edit. It’s so full of life and references and patience and chaos. He was alone up in Toronto, chipping away and sculpting. I love that moment in the process when you first see that everything is on track and then after a round of notes the edit crumbles, but then the next round of notes, the edit starts to sing. It’s just like that and you can’t ever believe that you won’t find your way, because the work guides you. That feeling we chase is always within reach.
