@damionburrows is @neil.brand.9 ‘s guest on the podcast this week… and he’s a big fan of @jimmysomervilleofficial . The 80s was filled with electronic anthems, but few stand the test of time better than @bronskibeatofficial ‘s Smalltown Boy, with its pulsating synth lines and Jimmy’s soaring vocals. Damion’s more than a fan though. He was one of thousands who jumped on Jimmy’s haunting, personal lyrics and made the song a theme tune for social transformation. A quick history lesson or reminder - “Section 28” stated that local authorities “shall not intentionally promote homosexuality” and came into law in the UK in May 1988. It was repealed in Scotland in 2000 and across the rest of the UK in 2003. Interesting fact… in June 1988, one of Damion’s other choices on the podcast , @petshopboys , performed at a benefit show in support of Section 28’s immediate abolition. As seen on the finale of House of the Year, I also got to visit Housestead by @saneihopkins - here's some pictures from my trip to the house. I thoroughly enjoyed being back presenting House of the Year for another season alongside @kevin.mccloud1 @natasha__huq It's always a provoking and inspiring role which gives me plenty of ideas to take back to the studio and share with the team at DMBA. @riba @granddesignstv

An experimental set of four distinct buildings that make up one family home. Housestead may not have been the overall winner of #HouseOfTheYear, but it did win a well-deserved place on the coveted shortlist. Catch up on all episodes of Grand Designs: House of the Year on the Channel 4 website. #GrandDesigns @riba
