Though I am not usually one for New Year’s resolutions, I did set an intention for 2024. After two years of casually taking on design clients, I made the decision to make 2024 the year to invest time and money into my business. My last baby had just turned one and I was ready to focus on work again. I knew the first move was to properly document my projects. I was ready to photograph my own home and figured I could be my own photoshoot guinea pig. I closed out 2023 with my first photoshoot scheduled for February.
On New Year’s Day 2024 I bought tickets to
@design_camp_co , a business retreat for interior designers started by the incomparable
@anastasiacasey_ . In April, I traveled to Austin to be with 100 other designers and fully immersed myself in design talk for 3 days. I had the opportunity to meet two of my major design heroes, fellow self-taught designers Julia Miller from
@yondinteriors and
@heidicaillierdesign , who were both at the conference as keynote speakers. I humbly showed them the images from my first photoshoot and they both kindly and independently encouraged me to reach out to
@albaworks to pitch the project for publishing.
Today I hold a copy of Rue Winter ’24 issue and within its pages lies an eight-page spread of my own personal home beautifully captured by
@lindsay_brown and styled by
@adamfortner . This is the perfect capstone to 2024, the year I decided to see what
@dafandco could become. This is only the beginning, and I am so excited for what 2025 will bring!
Hot off the heels of thanksgiving, I have a lot to be grateful for this year. THANK YOU to
@ruemagazine and
@kellilamb_ for being the first to showcase the work of this unknown designer in print. THANK YOU to
@yondinteriors and
@heidicaillierdesign for the much-needed nudge. THANK YOU to
@albaworks for taking me on. THANK YOU to all those who continue to encourage me along this path and to those following along here. THANK YOU to
@lindsay_brown and
@adamfortner for bringing this project to life, I can’t wait for our next shoot in Jan!
