Khajistan Zine design for @dazedmiddleeast issue 00 🤾
Thank you @khannn__ and the whole team at @khajistanpress for trusting us to hold space for your work. It was an honour to share a lil slice of the most extensive counter-cultural archive from SWANA for our first issue.
Love to @sarraalayyan and @lynn.akili for the internal editing
My artwork “NATIONAL PEACE” is now on view at ICD Brookfield Place for this year’s Tasmeem exhibition, presented under the theme Graphic Dissent. The show explores design as a tool for social commentary, resistance, and cultural reflection.
NATIONAL PEACE:
Afghan war rugs have long served as both testimony and survival - turning the trauma of conflict into patterned records often made for export. These rugs mapped tanks, rifles, and helicopters into domestic objects, reflecting a violent history shaped by occupation and war. NATIONAL PEACE reclaims this tradition through the same gridded design process used by rug makers, but instead of documenting weapons, it defuses them. An AK-47 is wrapped in flowers. Bombs appear as pomegranates - symbols of life, not destruction. This work resists inherited violence and reimagines the war rug as a vessel for peace, safety, and cultural renewal.
Limited prints are also available for sale at @jameelartscentre
