Today marks three years since the war in Sudan broke out. years of War, Displacement, Hunger, and Loss. And somehow, it’s still not enough for the world to pay attention. We’ve been saying talk about Sudan, share, support. And still, silence.
Nonetheless, my people don’t stop. They keep going like they always did. Resilient in ways we ourselves or the world will never fully understand. We all have an obligation and the responsibility not just as Sudanese people but everyone to speak up and to remind the world. To not let al Sha3b al sudani disappear and let our loss and suffering be ignored.
I personally find Sudan in everything I do. In every room I walk into, every piece of work I put out. It’s not separate from me, it’s my home, it’s the reason I grew and became the man that I am today. I found myself in Sudan and every single second I spent in Sudan is what the term wholesome means to me. I will Forever cherish it and always fight to have my home back to what it was and to one day go back and rebuild it to become something even greater. To the family I parted ways with, the friends i now call brothers and sisters, I can’t wait to see us back on that roof laughing and living like we were always supposed to. Revisiting this project today, almost two years later, it hits differently. I am eternally grateful for the beautiful team that put this issue together, the writers, the contributors, photographers,
@lizjohnsonartur who shot these breathtaking images, and
@ahmadaswaid who always stood for what was right and told the stories that needed to be heard. What we made mattered, It still does. But it’s not enough and It never will be. There is still so much to say, And we’re still not done.
Don’t look away. Don’t let what they did to us become normal. Talk about Sudan. Share and support however you can.
