Rest in Power, Bob.
My entry point into music was a map Bob Power drew before I even knew his name. The records that turned music into a lifelong obsession were all his. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Common; he was shaping my ears long before I ever met him.
Years later, feeling lost and eyeing schools in London, I found Bob and moved to New York instead. It still feels surreal that the engineer behind my childhood became my actual teacher. Bob didn’t just teach mixing; he taught how to listen. He taught me to serve the artist, and that the mix begins in the arrangement. His “concentric circle” approach is still how I do things today.
His fingerprints were everywhere. I’d be DJing a Deee-Lite or Lonnie Liston Smith record only to realize later: Bob again. He was impossibly generous with his time. He’d listen to Mood Hut demos, smile, and say, “Groovy, man,” before offering one small observation that would fundamentally change how I heard the track.
He moved through history with a casual grace. He once mentioned turning down a session with Prince because he preferred a good night’s sleep. He’s the reason I moved to the U.S. and he also signed my first visa petition so I could stay.
There is a bit of trivia in his career that will resonates with Canadians. In the US, no one seems to knows Bran Van 3000, but back home, “Drinking in L.A.” is a massive one hit wonder etched into my generations memory. Bob produced the album. I’ve always felt Canada should have given him a passport for that—just for the trouble of dealing with our weirdest export.
Thank you for everything, Bob. You changed my frequency. RIP 💜

DJ Python – I Was Put On This Earth
、ヽ`☽ヽ`
2025, closing the loop.
Spent a lot of time inside this one. A record that kept shifting shape right up to the end and really asked for trust. Soft, spacious, and detail-heavy, with moments that hit unexpectedly hard — especially Isabella Lovestory’s smooth and unapologetic vocal. Mixed this while everyone was traveling around (myself included), finding its shape in the end. (featuring @isabellalovestory , @jawnino , @corpmane , @fysicaltherapy | @xlrecordings )

Natural Wonder Beauty Concept (@frincess & @dj__python ) – “Wicked Game”
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Wrapping up the year feeling grateful for everyone who brought me into their worlds.
Another highlight of 2025 was mixing and adding some extra production on this take of “Wicked Game.” Mixed “in hut” at the Mood Hut studio in Vancouver - had @jackj_____ lay down some beautiful guitar parts. Deep, moving, and a pleasure to work on.
