In times that feel challenging, uncertain, and like the warmth of the sun is far away, I wanted to explore the nourishing and transformative aspects that are possible in seasons or spaces of darkness. What happens in the dark of the earth, of the sea, of outer space? What can our imaginations create when we dream? I’m a person who needs to hibernate sometimes, before I feel energized or creative.

When the lights are out, it’s hard to know what’s going on. And it’s easy to be nervous or scared. After all, in the shadows, we can’t see the world around us. But there is so much beauty and wonder that happens in the dark.
In the ocean’s depths creatures can’t see, but they have taken shapes and gained abilities that would never occur to us. Moths cocoon and transform. Bears hibernate in dens, waiting for the warm weather. At night, humans rest, look inwards, and dream. And even further out, in the dark expanse of the universe, mystery calls to us.
