@ribbonsports , 8 months in. (8 months of trying to make this our full-time jobs 😄) @camrodr and I started with a simple question: How might we build a more supportive sports community through storytelling? How might we tell sports stories differently? One of the hardest lessons has been learning to manage our energy and attention, finding the right pace without getting caught up in the highs that lead to burnout. It’s a work in progress, but we’re learning. Grateful for the generosity of our collaborators and the athletes who believe in what we’re building. Looking back to the first half of the year, it’s humbling to see the progress we’ve made. From cold emails and pitch decks using stock photos, to slowly building a body of work we can proudly call our own. This is work we care deeply about and hope to keep doing for years to come. Quietly building behind the scenes. Malayo pa, but proud to be a sports media newbie ✌🏼

Not enough people talk about men’s volleyball. So when @dzigervacio reached out and said we could sit in on training the next day, I immediately called @artbylancey and asked if he was down for a 5am call time at the FEU gym. It’s easy to frame @dnsteelfeumvt as underdogs. But if you know their story, that label doesn’t quite fit. They’re a championship-caliber team. What stood out for me wasn’t the trophies, but the brotherhood. A team built on trust, shared roles, and belief in each other. We filmed this in December 2024, in the middle of their Spikers’ Turf semifinals. At the time, FEU was the only collegiate team left in a conference full of commercial teams. Putting this out now after their inspired UAAP run in 2025 and ahead of the new season starting this February, felt like the right moment to share their story (UAAP footage via @onesportsphl )

Everything I learned about documentary filmmaking started with following the work of @goodwolffilms . The power tandem of @jakejereza and @bardowu were among my first mentors in the docu space, and there’s something deeply nostalgic to me about the fact that I’m still all in on making documentaries to this day. Sometime in 2019/2020, I had the privilege of working with them as a shooter and editor. The voiceover you hear was recorded from a 2 hour conversation @chloeadarme and I had with each other a few months before the wedding. In the busyness of wedding prep, it took me a few more months to finally shape and edit the final tape. I hit multiple blocks while writing the wedding tape, and only found my way through after rewatching one of Jake’s classics, Kaye & Anton’s Wedding (2019). This film is an homage to you, Jake, Bardo, and Good Wolf. In some way, I’d like to believe I still managed to fulfill a long held dream of having a Good Wolf wedding film. You’ve left a lasting mark on my filmmaking journey, and I still find myself revisiting old notes and rewatching your films whenever I hit creative blocks or low points. Endless love and thanks to @oasisstudio.ph , under the helm of @francisbrklss , who brought so much life and soul to this film. They drove in from Angeles at 11pm the night before and were practically invisible, making our camera-awkward selves feel completely at ease throughout the day. Hope you enjoy this film 🤗 - Cyril

At just 9 years old, Filipino boxer @criztianlaurente15 stepped into the ring for the first time. What began as playful sparring with his brothers, sparked a burning passion and now a way of life. The General Santos City native boasts a professional record of 12-0, with 7 victories by knockout. Inspired by his national team heroes, whom he’s stood beside since he was 14, Pitt dreams of following in the footsteps of Paris-bound @paalamcarlo and hopes to represent the Philippines on the Olympic stage one day. For Pitt, boxing isn’t just a sport; it’s a constant pursuit of greatness. Shot at @boxingspartans_bgc Video by @cvsindac #ribbonsports #philippinesports
