THE TENANTS, UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED ✊🏿
This morning, tenants on E 103rd launched the East Harlem Tenant Union with a clear message: BUYERS BACK OFF OUR BLOCK 📣
The buildings are heading to foreclosure auction on June 10th, and tenants of @elbarr103united are organizing with CVH for a sale to @ehebclt Community Land Trust instead of another slumlord.
The buildings carry more than 2,300 housing code violations across 38 properties.
It's time for a change.
On April 29, the Supreme Court issued a 6–3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais that significantly weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — one of the most important protections against racial discrimination in how congressional districts are drawn.
In this week's #NYStateMinute, CVH Deputy Director @baxbrittny explains what happened.
This isn't just a Southern issue. This ruling sets national precedent, and districts here in New York are more vulnerable because of it.
Here's what you can do:
✅ Make sure you're registered to vote
✅ Contact your legislators and demand they pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act
Share this with someone who needs to know. 🔁

Substandard housing is a public health crisis.
We joined @silbermanssw at @huntercollege for a candid and powerful panel on how mold, heating failures, and neglected NYCHA conditions are driving chronic illness among older adults of color in East Harlem and beyond.
Shoutout to CVH member & @nychagram TA President Maria Pacheco for her fearless testimony, @bethjfinkel State Director at @aarpny for her policy recommendations, @senatorccleare for bringing legislative solutions, Donovan James Carey from @nynurses for a frontline healthcare perspective, and CVH Deputy Director @baxbrittny for moderating.
It was a great conversation – centering tenant voice, naming structural racism and ageism, and leaving attendees with a clear call to action: social determinants of health are ALL of our responsibility.
Elected officials, social workers, advocates – we all have a role to ensure people age with dignity.

The neighborhoods breathing the worst air. The zip codes most likely to flood. They're not random.
This week, we celebrated Earth Day, and CVH Deputy Director @baxbrittny connects the dots between climate justice, housing justice, and racial justice in our latest #NewYorkStateMinute.
A cleaner New York has to mean a more just New York. For everyone.

Did you know you have new rights when you apply for housing? 👀
On this week's New York (State) Minute: The Fair Chance for Housing Law!
Housing providers in NYC CANNOT consider:
❌ Felony convictions older than 5 years
❌ Misdemeanor convictions older than 3 years
🔑 For all other convictions, they must do an individualized review only AFTER they've pre-approved you for an apartment.
Did you catch the posters we put in the subways with @f.y.eye ?
Know your rights, and use them!
