TODAY: NYSNA members from across New York State traveled to Albany for our annual lobby day! Members made sure that nurses' and healthcare workers' voices and demands were heard throughout the capitol with a rally for quality care for all in the morning and an afternoon of meetings with our state legislators.
Lawmakers must deliver an equitable budget to support the communities and healthcare workers who need it most!

Yesterday, NYSNA nurses at Northwell Health/Putnam Hospital marched on the boss to demand a fair contract that includes enforceable safe staffing ratios and respectful wages and benefits! During their march on the boss, nurses delivered a petition outlining their demands that more than 80% of the Putnam bargaining unit signed. In addition to taking their demands to hospital administrators, nurses delivered their demands to the executives at Northwell headquarters on Long Island. Keep up the great work, Putnam nurses!
This is a big one.
When I was a nurse NYSNA fought for me to have a fair salary, job security, and healthcare.
Thanks to the union I was able start a family and build a good life here in Brooklyn.
I am immensely proud to continue fighting alongside NYSNA to deliver for working families and those who care for us when we need it the most.
New York’s nurses are healthcare heroes. They showed up & saved lives during the pandemic, like they do for us every single day.
The least we can do is fight alongside @nynurses for fair wages, better benefits & safe staffing. I’m proud to have their endorsement in this race. I’ll fight like hell to support them, from their picket lines to the halls of Congress.
NYSNA is proud to announce our endorsements for the 2026 June Primary Election. These candidates share our values of community and compassion and will fight for us, our patients, and working people everywhere.
Our ability to strengthen our public health infrastructure, our social safety net, and take action to support frontline workers depends on electing candidates who support nurses, healthcare professionals, and our communities. See our full list of endorsements at nysna.org/endorsements
UVM-Alice Hyde Medical Center nurses are fighting for a fair contract so they can deliver safe, quality patient care to their community! Rates of workplace violence are on the rise across the country, and nurses need protections in place to keep themselves and their patients safe. Listen to Alice Hyde member Sara talk about why protections from workplace violence are essential in a fair contract for nurses.
Happy International Nurses Day! Today may be the last day of Nurses Week—and Florence Nightingale's birthday—but NYSNA continues to celebrate nurses throughout the month of May! Check out more photos from Nurses Week events across New York state celebrating the power of nurses!
Yesterday, NYSNA nurses were back at the New York State Capitol to advocate for the passage of the New York Health Act, which would guarantee high-quality, comprehensive healthcare for all New Yorkers! Nurses joined advocates, allies, and our healthcare champions for a speak-out to talk about the life-changing impact the New York Health Act would have on our most vulnerable patients. New Yorkers need affordable healthcare. Now more than ever—it's time to pass the New York Health Act!
On Friday, NYSNA nurses at NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital held an informational picket to demand safe staffing, protections from workplace violence, and a fair contract for nurses and patients! NYSNA members are fighting to make the hospital safer for both nurses and patients—that means ensuring there are enough nurses to provide safe, quality patient care and the weapons detection systems and resources necessary to keep healthcare workers safe. Our heartfelt condolences go out to George Gresham’s family and our larger 1199SEIU union family. NYSNA nurses will miss George’s decades of commitment and leadership of the 1199SEIU caregivers and his steadfast solidarity with all healthcare workers. His tenacity and focus on social justice made a concrete difference in the lives of union members and all New Yorkers. He will be sorely missed, and nurses will honor his legacy by continuing his work to win dignity and respect for healthcare workers. Rest in power.
Frontline nurses shouldn't have to choose between caring for sick or aging loved ones and financial stability. Public sector nurses deserve access to paid family leave, which would give them job-protected paid time off when caring for a sick family member. ECMC needs to follow through on its commitment to nurses and grant them access to paid family leave NOW!
