Friday and Saturday I took a two-day intensive textured hair workshop.
Iâve always been drawn to visual art and care in the beauty world. Fine art background, licensed esthetician, makeup artist, and learning hair by doing it on set. For a long time, there just wasnât real education around textured hair or deeper skin tone and there werenât products either. I used to blend multiple foundations just to match very common skin tones.
These classes filled in my knowledge gaps because it was taught by instructors who actually want you to ask questions and understand the why. Over the past two days I learned how to properly detangle natural hair, do a box braid, use a hot comb, apply a synthetic pony and wig, make Ivy braids and so much more.
The industry is getting better - better brands, better tools, more people pushing things forward. Education like this is what makes that progress real. Itâs been hard to find. Thank you to the instructors for building it.
This work matters to the set, to the artists, and especially to the next generation. I want to show up informed, capable, and be someone my textured hair girls can trust.
Thank you @artistmgmtxtca@mohawkmakeup@keshsworld.ii for making the Textured Hair Workshop happen w/ @blessedbyavie@k1shachereestyles@hairbysusyla@strongerstrandz
Today I share a birthday with the lovely @hairbyaviva đđ
@erikaxstalder wrote a beautiful article for @newbeauty reminding us of how much we can show up for each other. A dear friend of mine always refers to birthdays as personal New Yearâs. This year truly does feel like a rebirth and a new year. Starting over feels better with support â¤ď¸thank you.
After nearly losing my entire makeup and hair kit in the Eaton fires, I was overwhelmed by the kindness of friends, colleagues, and talented artists Iâve never even met in person. Your generosity in helping me rebuild means more to me than words can express. I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. Iâm back to work because of you. Thank you â¤ď¸
Nineteen days after we evacuated, we finally returned to what was left of our home. The scene was unrecognizable. I couldnât tell a pillow from a closet full of dresses, or a sofa from a painting. The chaos blurred everything together. The only item I was truly in search of was a necklace my grandmother gave me before she passed. If itâs still there, itâs buried beneath ash, plaster, and fragments of our terracotta roof. Sadly the air is still thick and toxic and not safe to sift through the debris at great lengths.
I broke down when I stumbled across a bocce ball ⌠It pulled me back to memories of our yard, how beautiful it was, and all the hard work that made it so.
This is the beginning of a very long road. A true fresh start. But even in the midst of this heartbreak, I am deeply grateful to every single person who has offered us support during this difficult time. Your kindness is a light in all of this darkness.
Special thank you to my talented long time friend @lindseybyrnes who suited up and came to document this.
Our home and everything we owned is goneâphotos, clothes, cherished mementos, and the foundation of our daily lives. Itâs hard to put into words how overwhelming this loss feels.
To all of our friends, family, and kind strangers whoâve reached out with words of comfort, love, and generosity: thank you. Your support has been a lifeline during these first difficult days.
Rebuilding our home and our lives will be a long journey. If youâre able, please consider sharing our GoFundMe link with others. Every bit of help, whether through donations or simply spreading the word, makes a world of difference to us.
We know weâre not alone in this. Our hearts are with everyone else whoâs been affected. Thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts.
