So thrilled to share my @huffpost article on how global streamers like Netflix are changing the K-drama landscape and blurring the line between Korean film and TV! It’s a topic that I know many K-drama fans have been discussing in recent years, and I’m so glad that I was able to finally write about it! Many thanks to @heyerinevans for commissioning the piece and to @areum_jeong , Professor Dal Yong Jin, @datizzard , @jonathan.h.kim , Director Park Ki-yong, @kdramasmusings , @frakmomma04 and Julie Vooys for sharing their thoughts with me for the article! I’ve posted bits and pieces from my article here, but you can find the link to the entire piece in my Stories and Articles 2024 Highlights. #kdrama #kdramas #netflix #streaming #koreanfilm

Posting this really late because I’ve been battling the worst cold/flu I’ve ever had in my life while also preparing for a talk I recently gave, but here’s a roundup of 10 established and up-and-coming Korean rock bands that I wrote for @recordingacademy ! South Korea has a long history with rock and a host of respected rock musicians that don’t get talked about much outside the country, but I’m starting to see signs that that might soon change. So for anyone who’s curious to know more about K-rock, check out my piece! Link in Stories and Articles 2023 Highlights. Fyi, the artists included in the list are (in the order of the songs played in the carousel): @bandjannabi @silicagel.official @crying.nut @touched_official @surlofficial @nerdconnection_official @jaurim_official @band_nah @ydbband @band_lucy #krock #kindie #kpop

Never in a million years did I imagine that I’d be interviewing Kim Soo-hyun and Park Min-young—two of today’s top K-drama stars—onstage at my first #KCON! 😳 #KCONLA2024 was my first time emceeing a celebrity event, and omg, I was NOT prepared for Kim Soo-hyun’s fan meeting! 😱 I was sooo overwhelmed by the screaming fans more than anything and had a really hard time projecting my voice even with the mic b/c it was SO LOUD where we were onstage—so much so that I even misheard KSH a couple of times (oops! 😅). Had a major headache afterwards, and, to be honest, I think my little introvert self is still recovering from that event LOL. 🥲 To give a sense of what his fan meeting was like, I’ve included a few clips I found online (thank you to @choiboyoung , @kpopwithjojo , @1027kiisfm and others for uploading these videos). Please note that some of the giggles in the 2nd slide are coming from whoever recorded the livestream and not me LOL. 😂 I’ve attended events where crowds will go wild over Hollywood A-listers, but none of them can compare to what I saw and heard at the KSH event. It’s no surprise that his fan meeting was the most-attended session in KCON LA’s 12-year history! Thankfully, Park Min-young’s fan meeting had an audience that was, er, less thirsty and less chaotic, but I could tell they had immense love and respect for her and her acting. 😍 I was also really impressed by her English-language skills and her ability to think on her feet and improvise on the spot when we were experiencing technical difficulties onstage lol. She handled it like a total pro, and I have to say I really learned a lot from her just by observing her and following her lead! 🤩 Many thanks to @seolran___ and to @studiodragon.official for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Truly grateful and honored to have had a crash course in emceeing a large event, and with two high-profile celebrities at that! And thank you to everyone who was able to make it to either or both events—hope you all had a great time!! #kconla #kimsoohyun #parkminyoung @kconusa

Had a wonderful time at last week's @kacfny gala, where we were blessed with a surprise performance of "Golden" by none other than HUNTR/X themselves--@ejae_k@audreynuna@rei.ami ! 😱🤩 Check out my recap of the event in Forbes: /sites/reginakim/2026/04/30/kpop-demon-hunters-trio-ejae-audrey-nuna-and-rei-ami-honored-at-kacf-gala/  (I'll also include a link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights.) Many thanks to KACF, @kyungyoonnyc and @kyoorl for a magical, "golden" evening! 🌟🙏 And many thanks as well to @andremaierphoto and @verosuh for the beautiful photos 📸! 😍 #KACF #KACFgala #KPopDemonHunters #Golden #huntrix

Can’t believe I got to interview the legendary Youn Yuh-jung for @voguemagazine ! 😱 I usually don't get nervous during celebrity interviews, but omg my heart was pounding and my palms sweaty when I walked into my interview with Youn 선생님 b/c not only is she a living icon, she’s also famously candid and quick-witted, and I wasn’t sure if I could keep up. 😅 When I told her I was nervous, she was like, “Why are you nervous?” and immediately put me at ease by complaining about her lunch and travel fatigue lol. We started out speaking in Korean, but she told me I could interview her in English if I wanted to, so I did. And I quickly realized that her English is pretty fluent—a LOT more fluent than what we’ve heard in her acceptance speeches (which makes sense considering how flustered most people are when they receive an Oscar or a BAFTA). Throughout the interview, I was constantly amazed by all the brilliant analogies and jokes she came up with on the spot (in English, no less! Too bad I only got to include a fraction of them in my piece 🥲) and her tidbits of wisdom. Even though she told me she doesn’t give advice, I think I learned a lot from our conversation. ❤️ I've included a few excerpts in this post, but you can read the full article here: /article/youn-yuh-jung-beef-season-2-interview  (As always, I'll include a link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights too.) Many, many thanks to @emilycshimizu and @meicoble for making this dream interview possible!! 🙏🥹 I was honestly a bit bummed at first that I wouldn’t get to see BIGBANG and Foster the People perform at Coachella, but getting to interview the one and only Youn Yuh-jung in person more than made up for it! 🙌 #YounYuhJung #BEEF #BEEFSeason2 #BEEFS2 #윤여정

I've had nothing but #BEEF 🥩 on my mind for the past couple of weeks! 🤣 Shortly after my LA trip, I went to DC to cover another Netflix event celebrating BEEF Season 2 (and to interview some really cool people!) 😎 Last Tuesday, Netflix, the Korean Embassy and the Korean Cultural Center in DC hosted an advance screening of the first 2 episodes of BEEF S2 at the Motion Picture Association in DC, followed by a Q&A with BEEF creator Lee Sung Jin (@beherelater ) and season 2 cast members Youn Yuh-jung, Matthew Kim (@bigmatthewww ) and Seoyeon Jang (@seoyeonrebecca ). The screening was preceded by a pre-reception, where we got to enjoy some amazing BEEF S2-inspired Korean food curated by Chef Edward Lee (@chefedwardlee ) and Chef Danny Lee (@dannyleedc ). 😋 A lot of Korean government folks attended the event, including the South Korean Ambassador to the US Kang Kyung-wha 👀 Check out my recap of the event here: /sites/reginakim/2026/04/18/beef-season-2-cast-and-netflix-exec-share-insights-at-dc-screening/ (I've also shared a link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights.) I've also included some pics & a video from the event here (all of the pics except for the one of the theater were taken by @shannonphotogal 😁) Got to have a pic taken with the legendary Youn Yuh-jung and BEEF creator/showrunner Lee Sung Jin! (I wish Youn 선생님 wasn't looking elsewhere, but I think it was just so hectic with so many Koreans clamoring for a photo with her lol 🥲) Many thanks to Jinny Howe (@jinnyhowe_ ), Netflix's Head of Scripted Series for UCAN, and to Chef Danny Lee for taking the time to chat with me for my Forbes piece! And as always, many thanks to @emilycshimizu and @meicoble for the opportunity! 🙏 (And another thanks to Danny for treating us to another round of tasty Korean food at his restaurant @anjufrc ! 😋 If you’re in DC, you should definitely check it out!!) #BEEFS2 #BEEFSeason2 #Netflix #beefnetflix

BEEF: It's what's for dinner 🥩😋 All joking aside, I had a lovely time attending the BEEF S2 special dinner celebration at @baroolosangeles last week! Many thanks to Netflix and to @the.kalh for bringing together such an amazing group of accomplished Korean & Korean American creatives and entertainment executives 🙏 As one of the journalists invited to the event, it was an honor to be able to witness firsthand this talented community coming together in a meaningful way ❤️ Sharing some photos & videos from the event (I took all the videos & some of the pics, but if the pic looks nice, it was probably taken by @mkovac lol) Really enjoyed getting to hear some BTS stories from BEEF creator/showrunner Lee Sung Jin (@beherelater ) about the making of BEEF Season 2, including how he cast Charles Melton and how the Oscar-winning actress Youn Yuh-jung convinced another Korean icon Song Kang-ho to appear in the series! Also had to take pics with @jiyoung_ie , who voices Zoey, my favorite character in KPop Demon Hunters, and with @angryasianman , one of the OG writers speaking up for the Asian American community whose work I've always admired! The food at Baroo was SO GOOD! It tasted fancy but also kind of like my mom's home cooking lol. And the best part for me was that I felt full & content afterwards but NOT bloated (which I honestly can't say for a lot of restaurants I've been to in NYC). I can see why Baroo was named the LA Times' 2024 Restaurant of the Year(!). ICYMI, check out my Forbes piece for a recap of the event: /sites/reginakim/2026/04/13/beef-season-2-inside-netflixs-star-studded-dinner-at-baroo-in-la/ (I'll also post the link in my Stories) Many thanks to Lee Sung Jin, @kymberefx , @sookbyminapark and @uhkwang for taking the time to chat with me during the event and to @ohcatnam for making everyone feel welcome the second they arrived (sorry that I seemed so startled when I walked in lol)! And ofc, many thanks as well to @emilycshimizu and @meicoble for inviting me to the special celebration--you two are the best!! 🫶 #BEEF #BEEFS2 #BEEFSeason2 #Netflix #Baroo

Last month I sat down with Woosung, the frontman of the Korean indie rock band The Rose 🌹, after his special meet and greet with fans at the Samsung Experience Store in Queens, NY. He told me about his partnership with Samsung and DIVE Studios, his band's upcoming album and tour, and why they plan to go on hiatus soon. You can check out my interview in Forbes here: /sites/reginakim/2026/04/09/woosung-talks-the-roses-2026-tour-new-album-and-samsung-galaxy-event/ (I'll also post the link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights.) After my convo with Woosung, I also got to test out new features on the Samsung Galaxy S26 (including an AI anime image generator!), which was pretty cool! ✌️ Many thanks to Woosung for taking the time to chat with me and to @tiannakarlin and @thedivestudios for inviting me to the Galaxy Experience event and for making the interview possible! 🫶 #therose #woosung #koreanrock #samsunggalaxy #withGalaxy

I don't know about y'all, but when I watched the Netflix BTS documentary "BTS: The Return," I was a bit shocked by how candid and vulnerable the members of BTS were on camera. So I spoke to Director @baomnguyen and Producer @jane_chacutler about the making of the movie and how they were able to get the members to open up. I've included a few excerpts here, but please check out the full article in @vanityfair : /hollywood/story/bts-documentary (I'll also share a link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights.) Many thanks to @jackielamaj , @dninh , @meldrxdge and @corey_rosen for making the interview possible! And ofc, many thanks as well to Bao and Jane for taking the time to chat with me about their eye-opening film 🙏 #BTS #btsthereturn #btsdocumentary #btsarmy #arirang

Wrote this one for the ARMYs out there! 💜 I really loved how the Netflix BTS documentary "BTS: The Return" gave us such a raw, intimate look at one of the world's biggest musical acts, but I couldn't help but notice that the subtitles didn't capture everything the members said. So I wrote a Forbes explainer on some of the scenes that could probably benefit from a bit more context. I've included some excerpts in this post, but you can read the full article here: /sites/reginakim/2026/03/30/bts-the-return-documentary-10-things-you-might-have-missed/ I'll also share a link in my Stories and my Articles 2026 Highlights. Enjoy! 🫰 #BTS #BTSTheReturn #btsdocumentary #btsarmy #arirang

Excited to share my @nytimes piece on the new Netflix documentary "BTS: The Return"! Even if you don't follow BTS or K-pop in general, I highly recommend watching this eye-opening film from director @baomnguyen because it really pulls back the curtain on the world's biggest boy band. 👀 I'll include a link to the piece in my Stories, but you can also read the entire article by swiping through the carousel above. UPDATE: For folks who are based in the New York area, the article is also available in the March 31 print issue of The New York Times (in the Arts section)! There was unfortunately a LOT of text that was ultimately cut from my article due to the strict word limit, including a reference to my favorite scene from the movie. When the members of BTS are shown discussing "Body to Body" (one of the songs on their new album ARIRANG), RM uses a very vivid analogy to express his dislike of the song's disparate elements. (For those who haven't heard it yet, the hip-hop track includes a snippet of "Arirang," a VERY traditional Korean folk song!) "It feels like I’m eating bread, pork cutlet and kimchi, all mixed (like bibimbap)," RM says in the scene. Then his bandmate Jimin says, "Wait, why does that sound f***ing delicious?" 🤣 I promise the exchange is a LOT funnier when you watch the movie 😂 , but that scene had me bursting into laughter, partly because listeners have been sharply divided over BTS's latest album. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the album when I first listened to it, and watching this documentary and seeing how many of the members also had their doubts about some of the tracks made me feel oh-so-vindicated lol 😂 That said, I WILL say that many of the songs from the album are now growing on me--esp. "Body to Body," "SWIM" and "Aliens"! 😊 💜 🫰 #BTS #BTSTheReturn #netflix #arirang #kpop

Thrilled to share my @vanityfair interview with @ejae_k , the Korean American singer-songwriter who provides the singing voice for Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters and co-wrote many of the songs from the film's soundtrack, including the Grammy-winning hit "Golden"! 💫 I've included a few excerpts here, but you can read the full article at /hollywood/story/kpop-demon-hunters-golden-ejae-interview  (I'll also include a link in my Stories and Articles 2026 Highlights.) During our interview, EJAE told me how songwriting saved her from depression, how she taught herself pansori (a type of traditional Korean music) for KPop Demon Hunters, how her life has changed since the film's blockbuster success, and why "Golden" is definitely a K-pop song. We also talked about many other things that I unfortunately didn't have the room to include in this piece, but I'm hoping to write a separate article that includes the rest of our interview. 🤞 Many thanks to EJAE for taking the time to chat with me and to @alignpr for making the interview possible in the first place! 🙏 So cool to see that the lyrics EJAE sings in "Golden" have truly manifested in her own life, because she's finally "shining" like she was "born to be"! Her story is so inspiring and reminds us all that sometimes "rejection" really is "redirection" 💜 Photo by @pakbae #KPopDemonHunters #EJAE #Golden #kpop #케데헌
