Did someone say omakase in Charleston?
FINALLY! @sushiwa_chs has been on my list for *years* so I jumped for joy when @kellykaultman , @sarsysmith and I scored a reservation earlier this year. (Shoutout to our birthday girl @kellykaultman for braving the middle of the night Resy stakeout!)
The talented duo, Chef @kazumura3773 and Chef @cschoed21 , carry 30 years of experience between them offering an intimate omakase experience featuring Edomae-sytle sushi.

Visited Nishide Shuzo to meet Hirohisa Nishide, brewer of the Moromi Junmai we pour, along with some excellent Japan only brews under the Harugokuro label.
Also met the cats behind the name, Moro-chan and Mi-chan.
Nishide Shuzo is a family-run micro brewery, focused on small batch, low-intervention brewing that creates soft, expressive, and elegant sake.
Sharing a few photos from the brewery, sushi lunch at Naomata and dinner later at 酒肴 夕凪 (Shukō Yuunagi) in Kanazawa.
Thanks for taking the time to show me around @nishidesake@sushiwa_chs
Had an epic meal at Fukuya in Toyama a few weeks back.
Ika and shiro ebi, crab shinjo, sesame-grilled sawara, shirako, mushrooms, chestnuts… just super clean, seasonal cooking start to finish.
One of my favorite meals of the whole trip.
Big thanks to @sake_haneya_fumigiku and @mtcsake for setting this up/ inviting me!
It’s with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my grandfather, William “Billy” Russo. I know he’s in a better place now, back with my grandmother at his side, exactly where he always wanted to be.
My earliest memories of him are of him getting off work as a bricklayer and stopping by our house on his way home- what felt like every single day. He and my grandma gave my sister, my cousins, and me the kind of childhood you wish everyone could have.
We spent every Sunday around their table for pasta, and every summer in their backyard having the most legendary pool parties. His Fourth of July parties were the stuff of family lore, and I hope I can carry that torch forward.
If you spent more than five seconds with him, you knew what he loved: his family, his friends, the New York Yankees, and Frank Sinatra. But the love that really stands out was the love he had for his wife. They were literal high school sweethearts, and the strength of their bond is something I hope to mirror with Jessica. Even after my grandma passed, he’d drive up to the church to “talk with Mom” until the day he couldn’t drive anymore.
I truly believe my grandparents were one of the most inspirational love stories I’ve ever seen. I’m grateful for every moment with them, and I hope I can live a life that reflects even a piece of the love, loyalty, and joy they shared.
Nine days in Japan went by in a blur- shrines, sake, friends, food, late nights, early mornings, and everything in between. It wasn’t enough time, but I tried to make every moment count. More photos, food, and stories from the trip coming soon.
Something about dining at @sushiwa_chs 🍣 feels elemental to what restaurant experiences should be. It all begins with the foundation of friendship between Chefs Kazu Murakami and @cschoed21 .
… And so it begins 💞— thrilled to share with you the season debut of The Southern Fork for its 10th Anniversary, complete with a new format and new theme music by my musical maestro @therealjimbomathus 🙏. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or on @youtube . Let’s Dig In again, shall we?

Reminiscing on last year’s road trip from Chikuma (Nagano) to Joetsu (Niigata) for an insane kamameshi lunch at Sennari. On the way back we stopped by the Kiyotsu Gorge tunnels and cruised through the Anzu no Sato apricot fields in Chikumashi Mori. So epic—can’t believe it took me this long to share!
Welcome to the world, William “Will” Kimball Schoedler
After a long and sometimes stressful 9 months, our sunrise baby boy arrived at 37 weeks on April 2nd, weighing 3 pounds, 14 ounces.
Our little rockstar is spending just a few more days in the NICU getting stronger, and we can’t wait to bring him home.
We’re so thankful for the amazing MUSC NICU team and for all the love and support from our friends and family.
We’re completely in love with this little guy.
