This depiction of the Dewerstone, by an unknown artist, was published in 1891 in a book called Picturesque England. But Dartmoor wasn’t always seen as a sublime environment worthy of artistic attention. A fascinating piece by BBC journalist @hattiemccann explores Dartmoor’s cultural identity and legacy - you can read in the link in our bio. Can you tell your Pixies from your Hinkypunks? Your Ogres from your Earth Gnomes? Would you know what to do if you were being ‘Pixie-led’? 🤔
Well… just ask our Information Advisers! 💚
We enjoyed an evening with Ethan Pennell (@crowmancrow ), creator of the Dartmoor Folklore Map, who told stories of the myths, legends and strange happenings on the moor 👻
Hosted by @field.system (in Ashburton, who also had a fantastic exhibition celebrating clothing used for ritual resistance and reclamation 🥰
