On toast.
One of our May seasonal dishes is haricot beans with sorrel sauce, roast fennel and labneh.
It just feels so right , so delicious, nourishing, grounding and symbiotic with our earth to eat seasonally.
We try to use our wonderful local producers as much as we can, and also gather from our own Rafikis garden. It's a joy.
MEZZE TONIGHT!
Tonight for Rafikis Friday we are offering mezze plates instead of our usual smackerels..so a large selection of yum on one plate rather than small plates to share.
We are well known for a good mezze plate, in fact if you remember back to our days in Number 14 it was all we used to serve in the evenings. It was so popular we thought we'd bring it back! Our mezze plate or an alternative special will feature on a Rafikis Friday once a month from now on. Watch this space! There will be mezze, thali and fire feasts coming up, but tonight we kick off with mezze. Hope you enjoy it lovely people.

A new menu for May! (Snuck in and I haven't said a word! )
Mays menu has a few new delights and some good old friends..looks who's back..one of our faves...the Bahn Xeo. Vietnamese sizzling pancake made with rice flour and coconut milk and stuffed with veg, herbs and either eggs or tofu.
Any time of day it's a winner! 💥
Rafikis Event!
Coming up on THURSDAY 21ST MAY we are proud to be hosting Alex Bollen to talk about her book Motherdom, on the theme of rejecting good mother myths, reimagining motherhood.
Alex @alexbollen is a researcher, writer, and post natal practitioner and I'm pleased to say a very lovely old friend of mine and I know she will give us a brilliant, informative and inspiring talk.
Tell everybody!
Free entry. 7pm.
Book talk. Book launch. Motherdom.
It's majestic out there today!
There are ofcourse wonderful walks all around Ashburton - discover mighty tors, wild rivers and infuse in fields of bluebells in May.
We welcome all your furry friends at Rafikis so pop in after a good walk. As long as they're on leads, and well behaved they're welcome! !
We are named Rafikis as Rafiki means Friend in Swahili ( and I was born in Kenya) but Rafiki was also my first beloved dog. ❤️
So yes we do love dogs, we have dog treats and bowls, but please don't let them sit on the sofas! We want everyone to feel at home and most humans don't want to sit on hairy wet patches after a pooch don't you agree!?

Thankyou for eating with us!
So far this year we have sent £832 to the Gabriel Project, the charity we support in Mumbai. That's from donations from a lot of delicious Indian dishes eaten such as last month's Cheela, and the Bondass in March... I ( Susie) went to visit last year and it was such a pleasure and an honour to work alongside the chefs at the Gaja cafe in rural Mokhada. It's a brilliant initiative employing and supporting women in work, as well as feeding malnourished children in the villages.
We're so proud to be able to continue supporting them despite these trickier times.
Thanks for joining us at Rafikis and enabling us to share the love!
