world outside
The music video drops on YouTube tonight at 8pm, and the song drops at midnight on streaming platforms.
Beautifully animated by Marc Corrigan, world outside is the 3rd in his series of visualisations for this album, following mr loaded & never going home. This story is told through the relationship of two trees over time. Their connection stays strong as the world shifts around them, through changing colours, seasons and ultimately the looming shadow of industrialisation.

world outside is a sweet yet melancholy love story from the future that sounds like the past. When everything seems lost, love finds a way to provide comfort and shelter from the world around us.

never going home 🪐
I’m so impressed with Marc’s ability to visualise the concept of the song and bring it life like this with his animation. The flashbacks to life on earth, humanity’s complex relationship with fire, eventual war and collapse. The final shot of earth burning from space is something I found very profound and moving. We only have one planet and we need to take care of her before it’s too late. 🌎
Go to YouTube and watch the video, it’s linked in my bio.
Thanks to the brilliant players joining me on this one.

Graham Heaney - double bass

We escaped after the war
Trusting in the dark unknown
A hundred thousand years or more
And I know we’re never going home
Two by two we marched in line
Looking back at our burning Rome
Up ahead the stars shine cold
And I know we’re never going home
If we try we can remember
Though the picture’s fading over time
Of the ocean view,
And the green in blue,
And the sound of falling rain
Every time it feels we don’t belong
On this foreign land of steel and chrome
Then I close my eyes and I can go and dream
But I know we’re never going home
No I know we’re never going home

mr loaded 💰
The full music video by Marc Corrigan
mr loaded is not your friend. He is a grotesque sociopath, determined to increase his own wealth at the expense of the planet and everyone on it. We need a new economic system and we need it now. Stop rewarding greed.
"find another way, this one isn't working"

As good a time as any time to show you my only Christmas music video. This is Santa’s Comin’ Down the Chimney for Confidence Man. Just a little lyric video which is mostly looped with extra little animations throughout. The brief was for a sort of traditional Christmas cartoon look; so painted backgrounds and outlined characters.

‘Sitcom’ by Archmotors, wrote and designed a pseudo point-and-click adventure game for this one that has a Victorian-era man discover a travelling sideshow museum of curiosities that are in fact all just everyday archives from the present.
Loaded with visual in-jokes and references to both digital media and current trends, as well as to the golden era of adventure gaming. And an amazing song also.

This is ‘Come On’ for I’m From Barcelona. I’d always been a huge fan of this band. Emanuael had seen HamsandwicH’s ANTS and thought he’d like an animated video too, so he put a shout out on the socials looking for any animators and I replied and got the gig. Which is fortunate because it was my only video at the time. I didn’t have or know any animation software at the time so most of my earlier pieces, including this one, are all animated in camera. There’s a little clip of me at the start painting and scraping; I’d brought a second camera in one day just to document it and Emanual added that. He wanted to make sure people knew that this was all made for real. Learned a lot about practical animation from making this. My fingers bled from moving all those stars between frames.

This was the first of many lyric videos I’ve since made. ‘Bowlegged’ for Tommy Ashby.
The lyrics brought to mind the work of William Blake so that was my starting point. Screen captures of digital drawings that would be then overlaid onto the background texture. A bit of technical planning for the one shot and timing.

This is a clip from 'Cruel' by Cat Dowling.
The release of this single was delayed so much that it sort of snuck out way too late, and so it's criminally overlooked.
I think I must have recently watched Fear(s) of the Dark, and Persepolis when I made this. A bit of surrealism and a bit of film noir in this one.
Lyrically this is one of Cat’s best.

This is Passing Ships by Swimming Tapes.
It’s made entirely from public domain footage. I used to spend quite a lot of time going through old archives of PSA’s about the American nuclear family and science, and documentaries and films whose copyright had lapsed.
This video nicely juxtaposes a remembered simple rural time with urban life.
The ‘band footage’ is from a lovely little documentary called ‘Fences and Gates’ about the 70’s band Tide.

By way of introduction here I thought I’d share some of my older work as I update with ongoing projects. Bear with me as I fumble through. No better place than ANTS for HamsandwicH. This is the climactic scene where the ant is going to throw herself down the plughole. The ant is made from bluetack and staples. The shot from below is done using the old Sunset Boulevard trick of mirror at the bottom of the sink. Niamh and Podge popped down to my little kitchen in Dundalk to film the final scene where Niamh catches the little ant. Podge asked if he could put on the kettle while we were shooting. I said he could because we weren’t recording sound. He stuck the kettle into the shot to fill it up with water. What a silly billy.
