A life-changing moment happened during the final set at @bluesalleydc last night. My little brother walked into the room. It was the first time we had seen each other since I held him as a four-month-old baby. “Freedom of Art” is an album created to express who I am today as a man, a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, and an artist. I’m deeply thankful for four powerful shows this week at Blues Alley. The music truly came to life. Thank you Stacy Dillard, Josh Evans, Allyn Johnson, and Kweku Sumbry for bringing the music to life and helping tell the story that needed to be told. Playing at home in DC is always special. I love playing in front of the city that raised me- my family, lifelong friends, and so many people who came from near and far to celebrate this music. My father relocated to Senegal years ago, where I have four siblings. My brother who came to the show is the eldest of my siblings there, yet I’m still 20 years older than him. He also shares a birthday with my son Art. There has been a lot of pain surrounding the loss of our father, but having him there meant everything. Stacy, Josh, and Kweku embraced him like a brother, and he was able to meet members of our father’s family that he had never met before. The music, the ancestors, and the spirit brought us all together. What a powerful weekend. I’m beyond thankful. This is what Freedom of Art is all about- telling our stories, living our truths, and trusting that even when life isn’t perfect, everything is still unfolding in divine time. Glad this moment was captured in the @bluenotenyc green room when it was… BIG PIANO ENERGY 🔥🎹 Two of the dopest and most unique piano voices of their generation in one room. Real individuality. Real sound. Real spirit. Those that know… know. 👑👑🎹🎹 Much love to @elewrockjazz and remembering the great @vernellvbtjazz 🕊️🕯️ Moments like this remind me how important it is to honor the artists, the conversations, and the energy behind the music. The green room stories be just as deep as the bandstand. #BlueNoteNYC #Piano #JazzCommunity #Generations #Musicians

Wishing my Queen, @raven.g.holt , the mother of our two amazing children, a very Happy Mother’s Day!! Rae, you are truly amazing, and I can’t imagine life without you. The love, care, strength, and all the energy you pour into our family every single day never goes unnoticed. Even though at times it might feel like it. Today has been heavy. On the last day of the semester, while giving finals, I found out that one of my students and a member of our music community, David Moore, passed away. David was genuinely a great person… like for real. Just recently he gave me a ride home after I coached a combo he was in, and like always, we ended up talking about culture, music, health, and life. He always expressed how much he appreciated me being here in Phoenix. Originally from Memphis, he carried that Tennessee spirit, warmth, and sound with him everywhere he went. He was truly a good brother. Have a safe journey home, Dave. Gone far too soon. 🕊️🕯️ Sending my deepest condolences to his family, friends, students, and everyone whose life he touched. Rest in Peace and in Power, brother. One of the great ones for sure. 🙏🏾🎷👑 Moments like this remind us that life is precious. We have to live life to the fullest, and appreciate each other while we’re here… because we truly never know what tomorrow brings. RIP my boy, you will be missed 🙏🏾 #restinpeace #goodbrother #DavidMoore

Repost @gregthomas22 @gvthom JLP : What if the secret ingredient your team is missing isn’t a better strategy — it’s a more beautiful one? 🎶 We recently co-created an experiential workshop for Google leaders alongside our jazz trio and two Martha Graham dancers. The goal? Let leaders feel firsthand what compromise, negotiation, and creative tension look like when people are building something together. Our bassist and musical director, Corcoran Holt, opened by sharing his seed vision for the day and stating that he simply wanted: “To create something beautiful.” Those four words became the heartbeat of the entire session. For a room full of engineers and tech leaders, the idea that beauty could be at the center of their work together was genuinely mind-opening. This story also had a similar theme: author Tom Coyne stumbled upon a run-down community golf club in a small New York town and decided to help bring it back to life. When someone asked if he’d do it again, he replied: yes, because he got to be part of a team that wanted to make something good in the world. What a gift!” Beauty. Good. Not buzzwords — north stars. ✨ When we anchor our work in something bigger than deliverables or deadlines, something shifts. The collaboration gets richer. The trust runs deeper. And the results? They tend to surprise everyone. What does “making something beautiful” or “making something good” look like in YOUR work? We’d love to hear! Share your story below.
