We are delighted to announce the release of our debut album, ‘Córas Trio’. Córas Trio is 8 tracks comprised of Guitar, Drums, Fiddle and Electronics. It is a document that was borne out of many conversations and departures, taking what we have, breaking it apart and embracing what we are left with – the music of what happens. It’s been a pleasure of all of ours (Kevin, Paddy, and Conor) to work play and push against the boundaries of uncertainty, feeling, and understanding. Looking backwards to go forwards is integral to what we do. This album lives in the spirit of all thing’s community. We have had the pleasure of working with and being inspired by so many great people who have helped bring these sounds into the world, too many to thank here but you know who you are. The album will be available on LP soon, digital formats on Bandcamp Spotify and all the usual places, with merch (CDs and t-shirts) following our album launch shows.
If you like what you hear, please share it with a friend, to your page, on your stories, and pass it along.
We hope to see you all down the road, skipping stones on the golden lakes of eternity’s moon. Go raibh maith agaibh, CÓRAS TRIO 2024
Today's instalment of hcmf// 2025: Rewind reflects on a night where tradition was not preserved in glass, but set vividly in motion.
Córas Trio @corastrio — Kevin McCullagh, Paddy McKeown and Conor McAuley — brought the restless energy of the Irish seisiún into a new, exploratory frame. Rooted in jigs and reels yet propelled by electronics and free improvisation, their music stretched and compressed time, distilled melodies to their essence, and unfolded as a fully improvised three-way conversation. It was tradition deconstructed and reimagined in real time: bold, quick-witted, and alive to the present.
Making her hcmf// debut, Brìghde Chaimbeul @brichaimbeul offered a different but equally powerful invocation of cultural memory. A master of the Scottish smallpipes, she drew from Gaelic language, folklore and the eternal pull of the drone, blending minimalism and experimentation with deeply rooted tradition. Performing music from her album 'Sunwise' alongside earlier works, Chaimbeul created a sound world that felt ancient and immersive — winter-dark, hypnotic, and luminous.
Together, this double bill traced two distinct yet connected paths: music of the land, of story, of shared inheritance — reshaped for now, and resonating far beyond it.
**ANNOUNCING**
Córas Trio at Kirkos | March 19th

Conor McAuley (drums, percussion)
Paddy McKeown (guitar, electronics)
Kevin McCullagh (fiddle, electronics)
Córas Trio reinvent the spontaneous. Traditional melodies weave in and out of compelling textures that foreground fiddle, guitar and percussion with transcendental electronics; suspending elements of collective free improvisation with proper seisiún style playfulness.
Córas Trio are part of a new creative wave of musicians based in Belfast exploring how traditional music relates to the experience of the 21st century. Challenging ideas of cultural purism, they sweep the lines of contemporary musical practice, unafraid and unapologetic in their exploration of new ideas.
Since emerging on the scene, they have supported experimental folk heavyweights Aidan O’Rourke & Brìghde Chaimbeul, as well as Joshua Burnside. Their music has featured at the ‘IF 2022’ improvisation festival in Canada alongside Evelyn Glennie and William Parker; the London Jazz Festival (2023); the Horizons stage at WOMEX (2024); the Eurojazz Festival (2025); and Other Voices (2025) in Dingle, Ireland.

We're very grateful to our friends at Kirkos for hosting this event 🙏
Spent a gorgeous day at Camden street recording studio with @corastrio improvising the score for the upcoming show Infinity at @corkartstheatre , directed by @alldayjk .
A huge thanks to these incredible musicians and collaborators and to the guys at CSR -Alex &Ben. A buzz was had!
As serendipity would have it, the very kind and talented theatre director @alldayjk caught our Paris performance at the @centreculturelirlandais and immediately invited/demanded that we record the music for the Irish premiere of ‘Infinity’ (written by @hannahmoscovitch ) which will be showing in @corkartstheatre from Feb 05th. An absolute pleasure to work with Composer and Sound Designer @fionasheil in the comfortable setting of @camdenrecordingstudios - a fine way to start the year. The play deals with themes of love, time, eternity and the (in)finite.
🙏💚
