hello out there! i've been a little quiet over the last few months because quite honestly, the pandemic had me down and lacking creativity or any real motivation. and i've yet to speak out here over the last week, but my mind has not been quiet. actually, it's been quite the opposite. but i'm not showing up here to make this post about me...it's about what is going on in our country, and world, today, right now.
this simple, but powerful painting that was developed by local designer @laurahodgesstudio & painted by @madeline_moritz really caught my attention. I encourage you to read laura's initial post (shared in my story) that she shared along with this painting. and just like this painting, the colors in the palette seem so simple. but why do they become so difficult when it comes to someone's skin tone? and if only it could be so simple to just be kind and love one another no matter where you or they fall on this palette. but unfortunately, it's not that simple, because it's past that point. that's surface layer. to dig deeper past the surface, we need to continue to think hard, try to understand, and learn about privilege, history, and oppression. it's truly amazing what a little empathy, knowledge, and perspective can do. and that's where I am...continuing to listen, learn, and try my best to understand.
soon, these prints will be sold through @laurahodgesstudio and proceeds will be donated. I can't wait to snag one to serve as a constant reminder in our home to keep on digging past that simple surface layer...🤎
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be teaming up with @crossstmarket again on tuesday, april 14th for another intro to modern calligraphy workshop! absolutely no experience necessary & all materials, tools, worksheets, and two drink tickets are included.✍🏼📃🍷reserve your spot now through the link in my bio!
hey! here’s a picture of me when my hair was longer. should I grow it back or keep it chopped? anyway, that’s beside the point. this time of year is a bit slower and I’ve been taking the time to relax and work on a lot of behind the scenes business “stuff”. so, I don’t have a whole lot of new content to share with you but I am just popping in to stay relevant in the world of instagram.
if you are a new follower, thank you, and welcome. this here is my creative side hustle. I kind of hate that term but I don’t know what else to call it. during the day, I am a speech pathologist in a public elementary school. in the evenings and on weekends, I do calligraphy. I love my job and the fact that I can make a difference in children’s and family’s lives. and I also love calligraphy! someone once mentioned how there is a lot of emphasis on quitting your day job and pursuing your “passion” and at that point I realized that I had been so inundated with this mindset through Instagram. I am frequently asked if and when I will go full-time with calligraphy and my answer right now is “no”. I don’t think I’d love each job as much without the other and I realized that I am drawn to the power of words. whether spoken – what I spend my days doing in helping children to improve their communication skills, or written – the side of me that you see here.☺️
any other fellow side hustlers out there!? tell me what YOU do…during the day and at night!

today not only marks my 10th calligraphy workshop but I’ll also be teaching my 100th student! 🥳 looking forward to meeting all of these faces tonight over some drinks & calligraphy.
[ps: thanks @availaandco for the brush pen recommendation]
hi, happy 2020! so far january has been a lot of me, right here, in my groutfit, eyeballs glued to the TV. I’m caught up with my bravo shows, watched the morning show, cheer, you season 2, aaron hernadez doc, and even watching the bachelor this season (we’ll see how long that lasts). after an extra long holiday break, I’m getting up off of this couch and looking for inspiration in every corner.✨ but before that, any last minute show recommendations?! I think I can extend the break until sunday 🙃
another year has come and gone just like that! I’m tying up a few loose ends over here and then closing up shop until january.
reflecting on this past year and the opportunities that have come my way and I am truly & absolutely grateful. but that is all because of YOU! to my couples who used me for their wedding, thank you. to those who came to a workshop to learn from me, thank you. to all my #thejustmarriedjacketbmore babes, thank you. to the brands & businesses who have hired me for your events, thank you. to those quietly following along who have referred me to others, thank you. and to my friends and family for all of the support, thank you thank you thank you!
wishing you the happiest holidays & a very merry christmas 🖤 xx megan
