They say when you love the thing you do for a living, then you can go through life without a day of work. Reflecting on the last year, I can tell you, we had quite a few days of work. But maybe less than the year before that, and definitely less than the year before that. At Cookline, one of our core values is mastery. This idea that you practice a craft over and over, consistently getting a little bit better, and this year, mastery has been top of mind for our team. When you get better at something, inevitably, you love doing it more. We love building restaurants. We love working with people who want to share their favorite recipe, something that tastes so good you can’t keep it yourself. People who want to invite others into a space and create memories, or a feeling. The feeling of being taken care of fully, or escaping, even if just for a meal. With our clients, it’s about the details: The statement bar, a hearth as the centerpiece, an ombre wall, an arched ceiling, and not even a restroom is an afterthought. We build restaurants because we can’t wait to see these dreams in reality. Looking forward, we intend to do more of the things we love the most.
