Bumped into the Jordie from Lego Masters Australia. He was standing with some co-workers.
Me:
“My kids love you… actually, forget that — I love you.”
His coworkers: “What is going on right now?”
Turns out Jordie hadn’t mentioned he’s a national treasure.
Took the photo like a legend. Humble king.
That’ll do, brickie.

Very sad day. RIP Ad. I wave and salute you into the next one my friend. It was an honour to work and laugh with you over the years. You had a massive impact on so many lives. You certainly changed the course of my life, not least by bringing me from Black Hawk Down and Matt Cook from Spy Game (who became my long time biz partner) together to work as your foot soldiers on your first big 1st AD job on Johnny English in 2002. I say foot soldiers but you preferred to remind us we were working in an ER department: ”Where’s my artists? I need them on set. Hurry up boys, pulse is fading!”. I remember I took your instructions so seriously that I found a short cut from Hair & Makeup to set that could cut nearly 2 minutes out of the trip but it involved driving an actor in my golf buggy through the Pinewood studio office building. I’ll never forget how nervous I was after about a week when I had to tell you I’d received a life time ban from driving a golf cart in Pinewood studios. You looked at me with a twinkle in your eye and muttered in that understated field general tone of yours “Sometimes, you need to run the gurney through the hallway at full speed. You saved many lives son, now you’re just gonna have to take one for the team”.
I have a million little memories like this of you from film sets. But it was the rare moments we shared between shoots that I really treasure: your coaching me through my first heartbreak “Just remember two words: Sheffield steel. Can’t break men like us”. Haha, I still don’t know what kind of men he thought we were but I do remember feeling a lot better just for being referred to in the collective with a man I absolutely adored.
