➕ FILM SCREENING ➕ Black Art: In the Absence of Light (2021) Saturday, April 25th 5:30 pm In support of our current exhibiton “Paper Weight: Prints and Works on Paper from The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection”, Context Projects cordially invites you to join us for a special screening of the HBO Original documentary “Black Art: In The Absence of Light” - this Saturday, April 24th at 5:30 pm. Inspired by the late David Driskell’s landmark 1976 exhibition, Two Centuries of Black American Art, the documentary Black Art: In the Absence of Light offers an illuminating introduction to the work of some of the foremost Black visual artists working today. Directed by Sam Pollard, the film shines a light on the extraordinary impact of Driskell’s exhibition on generations of Black artists who have staked a claim on their rightful place within the 21st-Century art world. Interweaving insights and context from scholars and historians, along with interviews from a new generation of working African American curators and artists including Theaster Gates, Kerry James Marshall, Faith Ringgold, Amy Sherald and Carrie Mae Weems, the documentary is a look at the contributions of Black American artists historically as well as in today’s contemporary art world. Wine and refreshments courtesy of @offhandwinebar Limited seating, please RSVP via [email protected] (email button) is required Paper Weight: Prints and Works on Paper from @thekinseycollection - currently on view through May 31 Saturday gallery viewing hours: 12-5pm “Everything in Context” 🤝🏾 @slausonandco

Printmaking and works on paper have long expanded access to art, making collecting possible for more people. In Black cultural production, they have held a historical and societal significance: offering affordability, ownership, and visibility at a time when Black artists and audiences were excluded from the institutions that shaped artistic value. For Black visual art, prints have been a form of reflection, self-possession, and pride—living in homes, classrooms, and collections, where they can be seen, shared, and passed down across generations. In the early decades of the @thekinseycollection , these works represented both artistic excellence and a deeper engagement with Black creativity and expression. Paper Weight: Prints and Works on Paper from The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection - opening this Saturday, April 11th ➕ Please join us for the opening reception from 5-8pm 4435 1/2 W. ➕ UPCOMING EXHIBITION ➕ Paper Weight: Prints and Works on Paper from The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection - opening Saturday, April 11th Context Projects is proud to present ‘Paper Weight: Prints and Works on Paper from The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection’ (@thekinseycollection ) - on view April 11 - May 31, 2026. Marking 20 years of The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection’s public work as a traveling exhibition and institutional presence, the exhibition brings together prints and works on paper by Elizabeth Catlett, Radcliffe Bailey, Ernie Barnes, Phoebe Beasley, William Pajaud, Renee Stout, and more. The presentation signals a new phase for the Collection, one that broadens the meaning of stewardship, access, and legacy, marked by an intentional act of circulation. In selecting works to move from the core collection into new hands and homes, the Kinsey family frames transfer as extension. In this sense, legacy is not fixed within a private holding, it is renewed as works enter new collections, and new lineages. ‘Paper Weight’ affirms that Black cultural preservation depends not only on accumulation, but on thoughtful stewardship, shared access, and the many hands that help to hold and carry history forward. ‘Paper Weight’ illuminates the work of The Kinsey Collection as a living project—one shaped by curiosity, commitment, and a sustained belief in the importance of Black art, history, and culture. Many of the works on view hold the traces of relationships, discoveries, and convictions that helped form the collection, while also standing on their own as powerful artworks with continuing relevance in the present. April 11 - May 31, 2026 ➕Gallery will open at 5pm on Saturday, April 11th ➕Regular Hours: Saturday + Sunday 12-5p All other times by appointment ➕For appointments and artwork inquiries please contact [email protected] Context Projects 4435 1/2 W.
