5 years ago I was out for the count. With the rising cost of living (and lift tickets), combined with my complete lack of ability to function as a human being, I had given up on hoping I'd ever be able to go to Whistler again. I was certain that chapter of my life, and my book as a whole, had come to an end. I think about that certainty a lot now. I was more confident I'd be dead before this happened than I was the sun would come up the following day. Living with that mindset for multiple years is difficult to describe. When push came to shove I was offered an opportunity to come to @twcrecoverylife and figured I'd give sobriety a try even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. I didn't think I'd last a day but I had nothing more to lose. In treatment I learned to let go of toxic expectations of myself and others and how to find compassion for me. Still though, I didn't think I'd make it 6 months. Yesterday however, after 5 years, I woke up ON TIME at 5:45AM, I drove 2 good friends to Whistler in MY CAR and had a phenomenal session on an edge card I paid for. Every day for the last 5 years I've proved myself wrong. Every day the sun came up and so did I. . . . Massive thanks to @pacmanlou for filming and @tedmajor for taking off work to join in the fun. I could not be more stoked to show y'all what's been cooking over in Maple Ridge at the new @northshorebikeparkbc ! It's official: the park is built and I can confirm it's incredibly fun. These obstacles are unlike anything I've seen in BC and I cannot wait to see what gets thrown down here!
