I could not be more excited to share these photos finally. For @wild_rumpus_cabaret Weird Love Valentine's Day event I knew I had to pull out all the stops; from a 5 minute choreographed silk fan piece, to asking the lovely @jackiexwest to rent me a @mastersfxstudios realistic heart. This piece was so important to me, and so much fun to create. The cherry on top was convincing @timsaylorcreative to stand in the cold forest to take these photos the day after. Let me know what one is your favorite out of the group, but they're all iconic in my opinion. 🫀🩸

I won a work photo contest with this image, the theme was "Something You Love".
Fire spinning has been an absolute love language of mine. Lighting a wick forces me to be present, to be attentive, and pay attention to my body and my surroundings. It has been one of the best things for my mental health and is an amazing feat of me putting my mind to something, and following through with it. I'm still amazed at what I do, Dayna before 2022 would never believe they are able to do what they are doing, and I love that.

I see so many parallels between skating and recovering from addiction. The greatest ability I learned in skating is how to recognize and overcome fear - without this I wouldn't have been able to ask for help. I use this even when getting out of bed in the morning, when my body is telling me to stay comfortable, my mind can override it. Small things can make big changes over time. Also, I find it wild how perfectly this @camokrooked song fits my story. Such a powerful tune.

I was honored to be invited to film and participate in a traditional First Nations Sweat. Within the First Nations, there is so much diversity and from my experience, I have seen how compassionate, thoughtful and healing these people are. In a lot of ways, they are antithetical to our western ideals. Sustainable, while we are not. Compassionate where we are not. Communal when we are individualistic and thoughtful about things we take for granted. I'm so excited to learn more about Indigenous culture and healing throughout my employment @twcrecoverylife and the work the All My Relations Program is doing to heal men who suffer from addiction is inspiring.

With Vancouver back in lockdown I wanted to start off the week sharing mine. This summer I started spinning poi and while I highly recommend it for mental health during lockdown I can't help but notice it's cinematic potential.
