In the summer of 2023 John Gower Design welcomed Phil Tripp to the ownership group. As part of this exciting change, John and Phil decided to rebrand the company. We are excited to announce that going forward John Gower Design will be known as Commonhouse Design.
One of our favorite ADU projects! Very happy that this project ended up going ahead. This home was featured in this past summer's @thecumberlandforest home and garden tour.

This waterfront home went through an extensive interior and exterior renovation. It’s always so satisfying to breathe new life into and older home!
Fun fact: All of the cedar siding you see was salvaged from the original house. Each board was planed down and refinished.
Thanks to @tdgdevelopments and @denisemitchellinteriors for their work on this one. Photos by @lsp_media1
On site today visiting one of our projects. It's so good to see this one come to life!

Going back in time today. Hard to believe it's been over ten years since this project was built! Our clients requested a contemporary family home with a unique, sculptural design, This house blends into a diverse and eclectic suburban neighbourhood with stringent zoning bylaw requirements. The butterfly roof defines the children’s realm from that of their parents. Inside, the open plan makes compact and efficient spaces feel larger, while the central circulation spine keeps the house efficient.
Built on a challenging site with a narrow frontage and very steep slope below, we employed a walk-out lower level to maximize the available level land for patios and landscaping. The main floor is divided with a vaulted living/dining/kitchen zone on one side and a more intimate master bedroom wing on the other. Fir post and beams support the roof and add warmth and a sense of structural strength to the light-filled space.
