custom wedding pearls for @jenerous

designing pearls for weddings always feels special, but getting to collaborate with another artist to craft something truly personal has a unique magic to it
this was my last commission before leaving NY and it really felt like a dream come true. I’ve been a fan of jen’s writing for years, and it was a pleasure and a delight to discover that she’s just as cool and kind as I always imagined.
congrats to the hot & happy couple!
some things I worked on in the last year that I never posted about because I was too damn busy, but I worked with some incredible, generous, beautiful artists who I treasure

melted hershey’s couture
yes, I made this. top is molded leather, sourced sustainably @fab_scrap . skirt is crocheted silk mohair, hand-dyed at @loopyarn . two-strand bracelet is made from freshwater pearls. ancestral snake necklace is my grandmother’s cultured pearls on silk thread with 18k gold snake pendant and the original fishhook clasp.
the zemí necklace
freshwater pearls with three electroplated baroque keshi pearls on aqua silk thread, with a 14k gold plated brass amoeba toggle clasp.
I’ve been giving more time to researching what artists and artisans were doing long before I got here. usually, I look in the places my ancestors walked. sometimes I do this research retroactively, and delight in any similarities I find in the art made by two strangers hundreds of years apart.
floral design and world-building for the wedding of two of my loves
and, yes, I made my own outfit and sewed myself in moments before the ceremony😌
it was such a delight to work on something so full of love and joy and wonder. at 6am, I arrived at the venue space alongside other friends and artists—each of us moved by the same desire: to bring machel & nina’s dream to life. I made every floral arrangement and, with many generous hands, built the baby’s breath ceremonial arch.
watching my two best friends @softeepopstar & @machellovesyou —two souls who undoubtedly belong together—stand in honest, loving commitment in front of their dearest loved ones was a moment of magic that I will treasure forever.
looking back at our dear angel, Aziza in the center, it all feels even more precious
