In the latest Notes on Block article, @blockbranding ’s Mark Braddock and photographer @ryanmurphystudio meet on unconventional terms: there was no brief, no background, no parameters, just an opportunity for Ryan to investigate an unbeknown artist’s studio through his own lens. For the past five years, Mark has been looking more closely at his hometown of Perth through a series of paintings created in his upper level studio on Hay Street, a practice he has protected by keeping it hidden and largely separate from his commercial work. The outcome is a collection of ghostly images and a very personal article penned by Mark in response that captures the fraught and vulnerable territory of an artist finally ready to show and share. Read the full article at @notes_on_block , coinciding with “Allegory of Perth” by Mark Braddock showing at @lawsonflats this month (April 2026).

New visual identity and website for interior design and architecture studio @design_theory_perth , based in Walyalup/Fremantle. This renewed focus reflects the evolution of the multidisciplinary practice since it launched in 2013, refreshing the company’s vision and bringing it to life. Centred around the strategic direction of ‘giving form to experience’, this project has allowed us to explore and express more of the depth and storytelling in Design Theory’s work.  We also refreshed the @art_theory_perth brand, Design Theory’s sister agency who is celebrating five years of art consultancy this year.  Project Team— Brand strategy, project management & copywriting: @column.au Visual identity, website design: @mgiesser Website development: @svmorganwork Typeface: Rank by @rebekkahausmann Studio photography: @emmapegrum Studio signage photography: @adamkennaphoto

More Studio has spent the past nine months working with Remington Matters to design and develop the evolution of their online presence and visual language. @more__studio & @remingtonmatters In partnership with @column.au who developed the repositioning and brand strategy centred around ‘by hand and machine’, underlining Remington Matters’ meticulous approach to research, process and production. With this in mind, More Studio explored an experience around discovery, prompting exploration of materials and the tool as artefact. The visual language and art direction explores the creative journey and blurring the distinction between process and outcome. NB VOL 1 | Test Tube and Zekka were two pioneering concept retail stores in Perth in the early 2000s, both owned and run by Romina Gil De Matos. Selling designer homewares, Test Tube was a tiny glass-fronted store positioned off a side street in Mount Lawley. Zekka followed in 2006, focusing on cuttingedge international menswear at a time before online shopping, when tastemakers had to physically travel overseas to Europe, Japan or America to be able to own a lacquered-steel Moon Dish by Munich designer Matthias Demacker or to drape themselves head-to-toe in the rough-hewn jersey of Rick Owens. Block’s Mark Braddock and Romina Gil De Matos have shared a 15-year creative and collaborative journey that has been through many iterations, weaving in and out from client to collaborator, to colleague as well as friend. Their most recent project together is @roam_ps based out of Palm Springs. Denise Kuriger: “It was like a PhD, being in the labs all night, sort of bonding. Everyone had to prove themselves to each other and to Naomi. It gave us a lot of experience.” Tanya Sim: “Everyone got on well together, but it was also every man for himself…” @blockbranding ’s CEO Tanya Sim first met Denise Kuriger in New York City in the late ‘90s, when they both worked for Naomi Leff, a respected figure in interior design who was known for creating spaces for celebrities and retailers like Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani and Helena Rubinstein. In ‘Making Connections’ featured in Notes on Block, the two former colleagues reflect on their formative experiences at the interior design firm, and taking the leap to start their own businesses.
